Introduction
We're all familiar with the Hotline Miami's, Hollow Knight's, and Celeste's of the world. These are some of the indie games that hit the big time. Of course, for every one of these games, there's 100 other indie games that have been glossed over, relegated to a spot in a digital store few people will ever find themselves in. I wanted to bring attention to some of these lesser known indie games once again.
Details About the List
I'm going to order them according to Metacritic Critic Ratings. Steam is the only one on the list with all 10 games featured (Steam has 10 of them, Switch has 9 of them, PlayStation 4 has 7 of them, and Xbox One has 5 of them), but the Switch gets more reviews than the other platforms, so I will it use the Switch version of all the games for their review scores, except #8, where I will use the Steam version, since that’s the only version of it available. The two bottom games have pretty low critic ratings (60% with 1 Critic Review and 53% with 2 Critic Reviews). I personally disagree with the low scores of these two games, but it's only fair that you hear from more than just me. Keep in mind that games with only one or two User Ratings on Metacritic will not show the score. A game needs at least three User Ratings on Metacritic before the score will be shown. This is not the case for Critic Reviews.
Currently 9 of the games are on sale on Steam right now, and 5 of them are on sale on Switch. None of them are on sale on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One at the moment.
For the purpose of this post, I’m just going to stick with saying “achievements” and “getting all achievements” instead of “trophies” and “platinum trophy” since Steam has all 10 games on the list. You can basically substitute these with “trophies” and “platinum trophy” if you’re a PlayStation gamer. I will make mention of the two games on here that don’t include a platinum trophy however.

What makes packs enjoyable? (~ pack types & play styles)

My long-ish 'rant' that is borderline full on psychoanalysis; Feel free to tl;dr and answer the title in comments.
As usual I spent more time thinking about packs than making one. There are quite a few types of packs but for this discussion I will list a few; Obviously #1 is kitchen sink, though it's not really an abstract category because being all rounded it's a combination of playstyles. And obviously really any pack, even highly specific, will have a combination of aspects.
Crafting is exemplified in things like skyblocks - nothing to explore, just craft. Basically it emphasises the Skinner Box aspect; make thing A to make more of resource A to make machine B to make resource B, automate, etc. And an obvious subset of this is questing like Sevtech - while it has the other elements, it's still centred around this loop.
RL Craft (yes I know it's overrated) and Valhelsia are on the combat and building ends of 'Adventure'. And then you have dedicated 'Adventure' packs like Journey to the Core or Regrowth or Survival Islands, Crash Landing, Exoria, etc, etc. - what I will respectfully call gimmick packs, being the broadest category. They are all wildly different yet the common thread is some sort of intrinsic limitation that provides meaning. And really this area is pretty endless in that you could have the entire overworld covered in snow, ocean, spawn in the nether, Galacticraft with tweakers and custom gen, etc. And of course things like Hostile Worlds, Storms and Tornadoes, Tough As Nails, etc. These radically change what it means to exist in the world by undermining something (almost always safety) that is taken for granted. Though here is also TerraFirmaCraft - undermining the vanilla system almost entirely (and obviously stuff like Pixelmon, Craft to Exile).
Perhaps the pack has this change in mind specifically, like "Safety Lost is a survival focused mod pack, focusing on challenging survival through mechanics rather than enemy difficulty or expensive recipes. Rather than just trying to make everything a slow and painful grind Safety Lost tries to make things tense by using mods like Hardcore Darkness and Tough As Nails to add new pressures and dangers rather than filling the world with monsters and increasing resource costs and tedious amounts of work. "
And finally on the other end of the spectrum are townys, harvest moons, stuff like Peace of Mind, etc. and any sort of play that is centred around building. Are these types an exhaustive list? Probably not.
I personally think that a combination of these leads way to a 'purposeful' pack - i.e. something that moves away from the degenerate fantasy escape / slot machine with extra steps. Though we can completely remove singled out elements like combat (e.g. Peace of Mind) or exploration (skyblocks), and that's perfectly fine. But if you were to remove most ~ all but 1 element it feels more and more like a fabricated game that just happens to use Minecraft as the game engine. It stops being a world / simulation and starts being a casino.
Take Factorio as a simpler example. If you remove the threat of combat then it becomes a crafting loop and is edging closer and closer to being like a dressed up idle game or something. Similar can be said for SkyFactory, and if we are going to be cynical we could say that the major game loop is basically the same as an idle game, who's saving grace is complexity of automation and not merely just clicking upgrade.
Personally I've struggled with the addiction that comes. Nothing can feel better than sitting down to start a new world a build a little cabin, when life is stressful and you don't feel like you're going anywhere. That's what I mean by enjoyment and purpose - like actual enjoyment and purpose.
In a way it's actually hard to conceive of any instance of Minecraft that isn't ripe to be extremely addictive and psychologically regressive. After all it's designed to be a 'children's game' (despite the median consumer being well older). We can point the finger at Minecraft as a base or the mods themselves as a game that is inherently designed into addictive and often shallow loops; but I don't think that's completely true. And obviously it's entirely up to how someone chooses to spend their time in a healthy way. In saying that I think it's largely just how the potential of modded has developed. For instance the massive popularity of SkyFactory can be attributed simply to the fact that it's the most obvious direction to go with the modded feel, e.g. rf feels very modded as opposed to vanilla. SkyFactory is simply the top piece of a pyramid which at the bottom are mechanics like pipes, rf, etc. Likewise with RL Craft, and so on.
One solution is to see Minecraft as a simulation as opposed to a game. What I mean is that all of the above analysis is analysis of Minecraft as a game. If we analyse it as a simulation, then primarily Minecraft is about spaces and form, and the primary factors are things like movement and block types. From this perspective we could say Minecraft is quite underdeveloped. You can walk, sprint, swim, and that's about it. Modded tends to opt for obtaining something close to creative flight. And block types are largely trivial (maybe Mojang had a similar idea with powder snow).
When I think about the ways Minecraft was constructive or 'served its purpose' as opposed to being a drug, it's when I stepped back and learned the more broad principles about what I was doing - like how to build in a way that's open to future needs, 'functional aesthetics', or simply viscerally feeling that a 100x100x100 cube really is made up of a million blocks - something that while we know mathematically is hard to appreciate until you're placing them.
Some of my memorable experiences in Minecraft: Building my first shelter, building a nice shelter, completing the crappy cobblestone stair case down to bedrock the first time, realising I could just jump into a water pool and get down in 3 seconds, building a tower near my base so I could find it because I didn't know about F3 coords, connecting a river to the ocean, creating a waterfall and ridding it down in the boat (we've all done this, right?), laying minecart track when I was still blissfully unaware how useless it is, nether highway, building a wall around a village and then having a zombie spawn inside and kill everyone anyway. Setting a modded fan to max vertical push and using it as my hand glider launch pad, etc. etc.
Clearly I'm biased towards building but don't get me wrong I love melting my dopamine receptors on Omnifactory as much as the next guy. I said most memorable, not most enjoyable. If anything I love automation, resource amassment and power creep cause it's addictive af and appeals to what nerds are good at.
We could say that Minecraft is doomed to be degenerate because there's no nuance in crafting or building. Plugging Lego pieces together. And on the other hand we would say: Why ruin Minecraft's simplicity. I mean you could literally make a pack where people have to learn to program Lua just to progress. (and I'm pretty sure something like that exists already). I think it's less about adding legitimate barriers to dopamine as it is removing the necessity of quick shallow dopamine loops to progress in the game. Paradoxically, making things easier and moving away from Avaritia would actually make the game harder.

What all of these memories have in common is they gave the adult lego blocks an in-world purpose. OK, towny is the best? Clearly not. Obviously towny can be basically just as bad because it can be it's own power creep. It's not merely in-world mechanics over magic box.
One continuation is heavier platforming; to have more block types and movement. Here we can give more movement abilities by default or easy to renew, like double jump, leap, side step mods (these already exist). Different move speed on different blocks is tempting but it could easily kill the fun. Or make all the blocks slippery like ice, speed up the mobs, hilarity ensues. It's not the platforming that's important. The general idea is to just 'be' in the world is more pleasing - to 'incentivize' building of projects that are fun to test, not fun to complete, caving because it's fun, not because you need ore W for magic box P, etc. In vanilla these might be the many carnival style games seen on SMPs and so on. My point isn't that this is what would make a 'better' pack - just one example of a pivoted philosophy. And to, immediately contradict myself, a big appeal of modded is obviously, exactly; Get ore W for magic box P. It appeals to the git r' dun mentality.
Previously I would fuss over various 'psychopathic' aspects of the game - As many have pointed out, Survival should really be called Conquest. You are the pillager of the villages, not the hero. You're the one that desolates the environment for consumption. It's a power fantasy. So you have mods like pollution of the realms, Nature's aura, etc. Yet it's hard to see these as anything more than chores and minute hurdles to be automated over. And it's impossible to remove the Mine out of Minecraft even with mods like Harder Branchmining, Heat & Climate (makes you suffocate in underground airblocks). These will all simply be interpreted as chorelike things to be overcome with more power. Speaking of - that's the exact 'issue' with things like Tough as Nails and Hardcore Darkness. (I'm not saying they're not part of a solution, just that they aren't the secret sauce).
I'm not sure exactly what this would look like. Prospecting and adventuring for biomes can be boring, on the other hand if it is varied enough it's a lower dopamine, higher engagement activity. I also had the thought that mods like Bountiful and Vending Machine more accurately resemble the reality we live in. The question becomes; On the one hand playing the game exists as an extremely accelerated version of tangible success (which we can learn from and/or get addicted to) on the other hand it exists as a realm for the things that we would never do in real life - an outlet or sharpening stone. And then there just the simple fact that the purpose of the game is be an extreme fulfilment of the natural drives.
Tl;dr I don't think it's things that need to be added to the game, rather a minimalism that avoids certain dopamine high activities, such as grinding for ore tripling or unlocking heavily gated content. That way players can be in the moment as opposed to chasing some addictive completion curve.

The classic WSB story - lost it all.

Going to keep this simple. EDIT: this isn’t simple and I should write a short story on this.
I am generally risk averse. I hate losing $100 at the casino, I hate paying extra for guac at chipotles, I will return something or price match an item for a few dollars of savings. I am generally frugal.
But, I somehow had no issues losing 10k in options...
How I started
I remember my first trades like they were yesterday. I was trading the first hydrogen run-up in 2014 (FCEL, BLDP, PLUG) and made a few hundred dollars over a couple weeks.
I quickly progressed to penny stocks / biotech binary events and general stock market gambling mid-2014. I was making a few % here and there but the trend was down in total account value. I was the king of buying the peak in run-ups. I managed to make it out of 2014 close to break-even to slightly down.
WSB Era
March 2015 was my first option trade. It was an AXP - American Express - monthly option trade. I saw one of the regular option traders/services post a block of 10,000 calls that had been bought for 1.3 and I followed the trade with 10 call options for a total of $1300.
I woke up the next day to an analyst upgrade on AXP and was up 50% on my position. I was addicted! I day-dreamed for days about my AXP over night success. I think around that time there was some sort of Buffet buyout of Heinz and an option trade that was up a ridiculous amount of %%%. I wanted to hit it BIG.
I came up with the idea that all I needed to reach my goal was a few 100% over night gains/ 1k>2k>4k>8k> etc. I convinced myself that I would have no problems being patient for the exact criteria that I had set and worked on some other trades.
Remember, the first win is always free.
I was trading options pretty regularly from March 2015 until August 2016. During my best week I was up 20k and could feel the milli within reach. I can remember the exact option trade (HTZ) and I was trading weeklies on it.
For those who have been in the market long enough, you will remember the huge drawdown of August 2015.
I lost half my account value on QCOM calls (100 of them) that I followed at the beginning of July and never materialized. I watched them eventually go to 0. It was another 10,000 block that was probably a hedge or sold.
In August 2015 there were some issues with China and all of us woke up to stocks gapping down huge. Unfortunately my idea of buying far dated calls during the following days/weeks after the crash went sideways. I quickly learned that an increase in volatility causes a rise in option prices and I was paying a premium for calls that were going to lose value very quickly (the infamous IV crush).
I kept trading options into the end of 2015 and managed to maintain my account value positive but the trading fees for the year amounted to $30,000+. My broker was loving it.
I tried all the services, all the strategies. I created rules for my option plays: 1. No earnings 2. Only follow the big buys at a discount (10,000 blocks or more). 3. No weekly options 4. Take profit right away 5. Take losses quickly 6. etc.
I had a whole note book of option plays that I was writing down and following. I was paying for option services that all of you know about - remember, they make money on the services and not trading.
I even figured out a loop-hole with my broker: if I didn’t have enough money in my account, I could change my ask price to .01 and then change it to market buy and I would only need to accept a warning ⚠️ for the order to go through. I was able to day trade the option and make money, who cares if I didnt have enough? After a few months of this, I got a call from my broker that told me to stop and that I would be suspended if I continued with this.
By the way, I was always able to satisfy the debit on the account - so it wasn’t an issue of lack of funds.
Lost it all. Started taking money from lines of credits, every penny that I earned and losing it quicker and quicker.
I was a full on gambler but I was convinced that 8 trades would offset all the losses. I kept getting drawn in to the idea that I could hit a homerun and make it out a hero.
I eventually hit rock bottom on some weekly expiring FSLR options that I bought hours before expiration and said to myself - what the f are you doing? I resolved to invest for the long term and stop throwing tendies away.
The feeling was reinforced during the birth of my first born and I thought - what a loser this kid will think of me if he knew how much I was gambling and wasting my life. It was a really powerful moment looking at my kid and reflecting on this idea.
I decided at that point I was going to save every penny I had and invest it on new issues with potential.
Fall 2016
TTD, COUP and NTNX IPO ‘ed I decided I was going to throw every dollar at these and did so for the next few months. I eventually started using margin (up to 215%) and buying these for the next 6 months. They paid out and managed to make it over 100k within the year.
The first 100k was hard but once I crossed it, I never fell below this magic number.
2017 - I did some day trading but it was mostly obsessing over the above issues. I did gamble on a few options here and there but never more than 1k.
2018 - SFIX was my big winner, I bought a gap up in June 2018 and my combined account value had crossed 400k by August 2018. I was really struggling at crossing the 500k account value and experienced 3 x 30-40% drawdowns over the next 2 years before I finally crossed the 500k barrier and have never looked back.
I still made some mistakes over the next few months - AKAO & GSUM come to mind. Both of these resulted in 20k+ losses. Fortunately my winners were much bigger than my losers.
I thought about giving up and moving to index funds - but i was doing well - just experiencing large drawdowns because of leverage.
2019 big winners were CRON SWAV STNE.
2017 / 2018 / 2019 all had six digit capital gains on my tax returns.
At the beginning of 2020 I was still day trading on margin (180-220%) and got a call from my broker that they were tightening up my margin as my account was analyzed by the risk department and deemed too risky. Believe it or not this was right before the covid crash. I brought my margin down to 100-110% of account value and even though the drawdown from covid hit hard, I wasn’t wiped out.
I stayed the course and bought FSLY / RH during the big march drawdown and this resulted in some nice gains over the next few months.
I am constantly changing and testing my investment strategy but let me tell you that obsessing over 1 or 2 ideas and throwing every penny at it and holding for a few years is the best strategy. It may not work at some point but right now it does.
I still day trade but I trade with 10k or less on each individual position. It allows me minimize my losses and my winners are 1-7%. I am able to consistently make between 3-700$/ a day on day trades using the above strategy. I still take losses and still dream about hitting it big with an option trade but dont feel the need to put it all on the line every month / week.
I finally crossed into the two , club. I know people are going to ask for proof or ban but I am not earning anything for posting and the details about some of the trades should be proof enough that I kept a detailed journal of it all. I have way more to write but these are the highlights.
Eventually I will share how I build a position in a story I love. I still sell buy and sell to early but I am working on improving.
TL:DR - I gambled, lost it all and gambled some more lost more. I made it out alive. I have only sold calls/puts lately.
The one common denominator in all successful people is how much they obsess over 1 or 2 ideas. Do the same. All the winners on this sub have gone all in on one idea (FSLY / TSLA ). Stick with new stories or ones that are changing and go all in...wait a second, I didnt learn anything.

Great game. Incredible story, and everything was set up pretty well. But the fucking barriers.Oh boy the times I’ve tried getting to my objective but going in the uphill direction that is easily steep enough to walk on, and then getting stuck? Pfft. No way man. An auto save system would be nice too. Getting stuck inside one of those invisible barriers and then you save being like an hour ago? No way. Better graphics would be handy too, but not too better to the point where it takes the games “charm” of mundane desert away. Maybe make the game playable after beating it? Moving different gangs into different casinos? I should be able to wipe out the white glove society and then move the khans in there. Bigger soundtrack. Yep. Thsi ones a biggie. Don’t want to listen to johnny guitar and SPURS THAT JINGLE JANGLE JINGLE. Also, I feel that in thsi game a playable ghoul character would be easy to do. Maybe sprinting? Not so sure about that one. Also add new buildings. As a IRL Boulder City resident, they kinda disgraced my town a lil bit. And the Luxor, and the Belagio, like 5 other grand casinos get moved in?

So. I want to put a huge disclaimer at the beginning of this story. If you have trouble with stories about/containing suicide then do NOT read this. It’s not gory or a first person tale of suicide, but I just wanted to give a fair warning.

“So you want to know about humans do you?” she asked, smiling a sad smile and looking down at her drink for a moment.
“I don’t blame you… they seem like a wild species to most, one of only five sapient deathworld species to ever break the light speed barrier and by far the most interesting of those five…” she said with a sigh.
“But you already know that… don’t you? Of course you do.” She said, chuckling softly and taking a large gulp from the mug in front of her.
“I’m sure you’ve heard all the stories about how unstoppable they are, how it is impossible to break them or beat them down.” She said, bringing a chuckle from a few of the barflies that were eavesdropping. “Yes, yes they truly have an amazing ability to survive whatever the universe throws at them don’t they?” She said sardonically.
“Well…” she said, taking a deep breath as if readying herself for something. “I know for a fact that that isn’t always true…”
“Okay, okay calm down…” she said, drawing a bit more attention before taking another long pull from her mug. “I’ll tell you my story… But you’re not going to like it.”
“It started as just a normal day as stories like these always do.” she said, eliciting another chuckle from the now grown crowd of eavesdropping barflies. “Like any other, I crawled out of my nice warm sleeping bog into the crisp morning air that leaked in through my windows, shrugged on my moisture retainer and a set of clothes, grabbed a fish from my tank for breakfast and headed out the door. It was another idyllic day on the fringe, another day at work like any other.” She said, her eyes glazing over slightly as she started to get lost in the memory.
“I hopped on a shuttle and headed into the office, I’d worked from home the past week due to a cold so I thought that it would be good to get out and see my coworkers in person after being cooped up for so long. To my surprise and delight an acquaintance of mine: a human janitor by the name of Frank whose company I had come to enjoy was sitting at one of the desks. He was asleep by the looks of things with a content smile on his face.” she said, smiling fondly at that memory before shuddering for some reason and taking a deep breath in through her nostrils.
“He was a quiet man, but hardworking and he always seemed to have something nice or interesting to say whenever he did speak.” She said, her voice trembling slightly as she described the human. “He looked peaceful, like he was getting some much needed rest after pulling an all-nighter so I decided there was no harm in letting the janitor rest and made my way to my desk, swallowing down the last of my fish as I walked.” She said, making some of the listeners comment about how they’d ‘been there’ before.
“I sat down and settled in to the happy monotony of my job for a few hours till a loud scream grabbed my attention.” she said, making the eavesdroppers hush their whispering as they realized the story was about to get interesting. “I stood up and quickly located its source, the supervisor – a female Quith like myself – was standing by Frank’s desk screeching in terror. I ran over, like many of my co-workers, and joined the murmuring crowd that had gathered looking for answers.” She said, her voice trailing off to a whisper and making everyone lean in a bit closer. “Everyone at the front of the pack was strangely still and silent so I carefully pushed my way past them and instantly saw why. Frank was lying limply on the floor, his chair knocked over and that same peaceful smile on his face with the supervisor quietly sobbing in the corner of his cubicle.” she said, shuddering slightly as she remembered the scene.
“I reached out a hand and tentatively touched Frank… He was cold and lifeless. Frank was dead.” She said quietly, looking down at her hand as she did.
The crowd was dead silent, and when she stopped looking at her hand she looked around. “From the look on your faces I can tell that you want to know how he died. What could have possibly killed the unkillable, indomitable human? Well… He killed himself.” she said, making everyone express some form of either shock or disbelief.
She continued talking, raising her voice slightly to talk over the crowd. “He’d bought a pen of human ‘insulin’ under the guise of a family member needing it and injected the entire thing into himself. He was dead long before I found him at his desk.” She said, tipping back her mug till it was empty.
“What?” she asked, setting down the mug. “Oh sorry. Yeah I don’t blame you, I wanted to know why too. After all, it seemed too fantastic to be true. All the stories that have humans dying are all about them bravely sacrificing themselves, or fighting against a force they had no hope of beating and taking with them as many enemies as they could… But I guarantee you that for every one of those stories there’s one like mine. Especially on rim worlds…” she said, looking down at her mug and waiving over the bartender when she saw that it was empty.
Her order was interrupted by one of the more inebriated patrons slurring something about ‘fringe’ and ‘rim’. “What?” She asked, prompting him to repeat himself. “Oh no you’re not wrong, I did say that the planet we were on was a fringe world, not a rim world, the start of the rim was about a hundred light-years away at least. It’s relevant I promise, I’ll explain everything. Just give me a moment.” she said, slightly disgruntled as she finished giving the bartender her order and waited patiently for him to refill her mug.
She took a long pull from it before continuing her story. “Anyways, like I said I wanted to know what could have prompted Frank to do this, so I asked the only person I thought might know something. Dave, the other human that worked in the office.” She said, smiling as she recalled the man.
“Dave had a reputation as someone you can talk to about anything. Especially if you were looking for advice, as he had probably been through a lot worse.” She said, still smiling as she played with the murky brown foam on her beverage. “Dave grew up on an industrial world about fifty light-years away in what was then the middle of the rim. From what I heard it was pretty rough: union busting raids, monopolies, gangs. Typical rim world, lawless but profitable by any means necessary… at least, profitable for those on top anyways.” She said, swallowing dryly.
“His family worked together, saving up money in secret then stowing away on a transport headed core-ward, hopping from planet to planet as their money allowed it and working odd and factory jobs when it didn’t.” She said, sighing and sinking into her chair slightly. “Eventually, they ended up on the fringe, where things were much easier for them. Food was cheaper, work was more plentiful, and after a while, Dave and his siblings were able to get decent educations.”
As she described the human family pulling itself up by sheer will the other patrons smiled briefly before remembering what they had previously been talking about. “Long story short, he ended up working in the same office as Frank and I.” she said, obviously deep in some memory or another.
“Anyways, after giving him a week or two to mourn his fellow human, I approached him and asked what could have possibly prompted Frank to take his own life… I’ll never forget the response I got…” She said, a shiver running down her entire form. “Dave sat down and sighed loudly before saying ‘He didn’t have anything keeping him here anymore.’”
“I balked at that,” she said with a pained chuckle as a sullen silence settled over the now noticeably larger crowd. “I asked him what he meant by that. That the statement made no sense! After all, Frank was a human! What could possibly be so bad that a human decides to give up like one of… _us_…”
She shivered once more and opened her mouth for a moment, only to close it and bite her lip. “Dave didn’t like that… He got very angry and asked me what I knew about Frank’s living conditions…” she said, her gills flushing in shame, “I admitted that I didn’t know much and he told me that ever since Frank got on world, he’d been bouncing from job to job, city to city, living out of a large electric van that he put together from parts he had to steal from a scrapyard… He told me that Frank was barely eating enough to sustain himself, and that he had been sending most of his pay back to his family out on the rim so that they could join him here someday…” She explained, sighing into her mug and taking another large gulp.
“While that sounded difficult, it didn’t seem like something that would break a human; especially with their tendency towards modern nomadism… But there was one part of that story that stood out, so I asked: ‘Frank was sending money back to his family?’” She slumped forward slightly, resting her forehead on the table and taking a deep, shuddering breath. “Dave responded with two words… ‘Yes, was’” she said, once again forcing a hush on the crowd as they realized the implications.
“It turned out that Frank had not been as lucky as Dave… Frank’s family lived on a cartel world…” She explained, making a couple of people wince or hiss. “Exactly,” she said, sighing and slumping back into her chair, as if resigning herself to tell the rest of the story. “Frank’s family had been saving up much like Dave’s had… But before they could afford to get everyone smuggled off planet, Frank’s father was injured working in one of the factories. They had enough money to treat it, but without his income…” she began, but couldn’t seem to find the right words.
“In the end, they decided to send Frank off world to try and get a better job and secure a place for them to reunite eventually… That was the plan at least… Until the Federation decided to take apart the Cartel that is.” she said, the pained expression on her face finding itself on several of the crowd as well.
“His family took in a wounded soldier that got shot in the shanty town that they were living in during one of the early assaults.” she explained, staring deeply into her mug. “They saved the young soldier’s life, and gave her everything that they had on the workings of the cartel that they figured out after years of living on world… The fastest routes around town, known safe houses and floating casinos, collaborators, hidden shuttles… Information that the soldier took back to her commanders and would prove to be extremely useful in taking down the cartel…” she said, draining the last of her mug with a defeated sigh.
“They would have been hailed as heroes when the town was liberated… that is… if one of their neighbors didn’t see the soldier sneaking out once she was healed enough to walk.” She said, a distant anger visible behind the drunkenness in her eyes. “By the time the soldier came back with the rest of the army, Frank’s family had already been publicly executed.”
“The soldier,” she began, after a long pause of staring hatefully at her empty mug, “Showed up on planet the day before Frank killed himself.” She said, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. “She told Frank that his family saved her life. That they gave her the information they needed to keep any of the cartel from getting away. That they were heroes… And that they were dead.” She said, her voice dripping with sadness. “She told him that he should be proud of them. That they did the stories she’d heard of humanity justice… And that she was sorry for his loss…”
A hush fell over the crowd that nobody seemed to want to break as the Quith sat there staring sadly at her drink. “They were the only thing keeping Frank going… Day after day of going to bed hungry, and tired, and cold in a cramped vehicle that he put together with parts that he had to beg, borrow, and steal for… And the only thing that was keeping him together was the thought that with each day, each paycheck, he was getting closer and closer to bringing his family to him… And now they were dead…” she said, smiling sardonically and closing her eyes.
“You know the funny thing? Humans have this saying about themselves; more of an excuse really. They call it ‘only human.’” she said, smiling slightly. “‘Sorry, I made a mistake. I’m only human.’ they say, or ‘I can’t possibly do that, I’m only human after all.’ or maybe even ‘I need help. Please, I can’t do this on my own… I’m only human.’” she said, bringing a tear to many eyes capable of crying.
“The worst part is what Dave told me about how Frank saw the rest of us… Frank didn’t think that he could come to any of his colleagues with his problems. He didn’t think that they’d take him seriously. He’s human after all… What could possibly break a big, strong human in our eyes. What problems could they possibly have that we could relate to?” she asked, making looks of shame and discomfort spread through the crowd as everyone realized they’d thought that exact same thing at some point.
“Well take it from me that humans aren’t unbreakable… They’re the hardest to break species I’ve ever known, true juggernauts of willpower…” she said, smiling weakly. “But they still feel pain, they still feel depression… They’re still sapients just like you and me… They struggle along through life like the rest of us, clinging from one bit of hope to the next like the rest of us… and sometimes, they break like the rest of us.” she said, before smiling and taking a deep breath.
“So do the humans a favor. Don’t always assume that they’ll be fine or that they are always happy and healthy. It will go a long way for them to know that we care about them as much as they care about us.” She said, motioning the bartender over to pay her tab.
“You’re tab’s been taken care of,” the bartender said, nodding in the direction of a lone human, sitting at a table, raising a glass in her direction. His eyes were red, and his cheeks were wet with tears.

TIFU by not realizing I was staring at someone's breasts.

I work as a table games dealer in a tribal casino thats still open during the pandemic. In order to stay as safe as possible the casino has put up plexiglass barriers on all the tables between the dealer and the players with enough room under for the players to place bets and pick up cards. Ive recently realized that on certain games, (pai gow, 3 card poker, pitch blackjack) i can see the reflection of players cards in their hands on the plexiglass. Ive been using this information to entertain my players by telling them I can guess their hands based purely on their eyes expression. (Everyone's wearing masks for covid) its all for entertainment purposes and there is no cheating involved. Most of my player get a kick out of it. One player did not.
A young lady in her 30s in a slightly revealing top sits in the only open spot on my pai gow table. I deal the cards, and start looking around at the players hands. Her first hand is a full house. Three aces and a pair of 9s.
Without realizing that looking at the reflecion of the plexiglass puts my eyes in direct line of site to her chest, i look at her, point at her cards, give a big thumbs up and say "very nice". she had missunderstood my comment of her cards as a comment about her chest and started to flip out.
I didn't realize what was going on for a second. My floor came over wondering what was going on. The player told my floor I was being "perverted" and a pig. I was honestly confused because I hadn't realized what had happened. My floor (who really doesn't like me) started asking the player what happened before asking me. The player said I was ogling her tits (her words) and making obscene comments. The floor was highly surprised by the accusation, mainly because everyone knows im a married man and I don't generally make comments about woman's appearances.
The whole time she's talking to my floor, she has her cards face down on the table. She doesnt know that I know what's in her hand. She's talking about me needing to be fired and that she wanted to talk to the top manager in my department. My floor goes to the phone to call the pit boss (without asking for my side of the story).
While the floor is at the phone, I first apologize, then I explain to the lady I was complimenting her on her full house. She gets a confused look in her eyes. I say "I was commenting on your hand. You have 3 aces and 2 9s." She asks me how I know what her hand is. I explained that I can see her cards in the reflection of the plexiglass. I even tell her the guy on last spot has a pai gow. He flips his hand over and shows that he does indeed have a pai gow. (Pai gow means no pair in hand)
She gets quiet for a second, then apologizes for accusing me of being inappropriate. The floor comes over and tells her the pit boss is on his way. The lady says it was all a misunderstanding and stands up from the game after i finish paying everyone.
I get off the game, explain to the pit boss what happened, and he just laughs it off. The floor however, hasn't heard my explanation, nor knew what really happened. This morning ive recieved 3 different texts from coworkers about the incident. The floor has apparently told a bunch of our coworkers that i complimented a ladies chest, and now my department thinks I'm a pervert.
TL;DR was falsely accused of staring at a woman's chest, now my entire department at work thinks I'm a pervert.

Hello, you may know me from DD posts about IVZ and 3DP. I'm still heavily in these. But today I bring you SBW.
Ok for real, this might be the laziest DD you've read because it was copy pasted direct from hotcopper. But it will also be the best DD you've read (no offence to u/bigjimbeef recent DD on this but he's always drunk and while his DD did get me interested in this, I think maybe some people didn't take his post seriously because the post read like he had a beer in one hand and his dick in the other).

This gives a Market Capitalization of approximately ~45 million AUD.

What does this mean in plain English? It means management are extremely incentivized to perform, and are not just idly sitting by collecting an easy paycheck like so many other ASX companies. They have as much at stake as you do! Probably more.
The Core Business
The core business is a profitable operation which has been selling weighing systems to both retail and healthcare sectors – with reliable recurring revenue from customers including, but not limited to, household names like Toshiba and Fujitsu.
SBW have a combination of weighing + artificial intelligence + advanced mathematics which cannot be easily duplicated. The company was first founded in 1971 and was one of the first to shift from mechanical to digital weighing and ultra-thin IoT load sensors.

Conclusion
So, remember - the core scales business is what drives the revenue we see today, but the innovation division is where the real potential resides. That will take a few more months/years to play out. I think most people are buying for the fully autonomous frictionless retail technology which comes with a huge addressable market. That’s still being undervalued in my humble opinion.
Considering there are quite a few ASX-listed tech companies with no revenue and over 100 million market cap (some even @ 1 billion market cap right now…
I don’t see why SBW couldn’t move past ~45m market cap in the near future.
Now if you read all this - links included- I commend you for your diligence. It should be obvious now that the Capsule (in partnership with Hitachi) is the “crown jewel” or “holy grail” of retail disruption technology plays (look at the success of Amazon GO for example).
So you are probably thinking: "This sounds great @verce but it’s all just aspirational and hypothetical. When will it be put into operation?" Well I’m glad you asked. The answer might surprise you. And it may be sooner than you think.
The SBW Half Year Report from 31 August 2020 had a little snippet that I think a lot of people missed. Specifically, the following text:
“Flagship micro-market project Capsule is in an advanced stage of pilot in Europe, and expected to be open to the public for trial in the second half of 2020.”
Now you are probably wondering: "That’s great but what if it’s just some obscure insignificant corner store somewhere?" Again, the answer may surprise you, and requires a little digging.
Enter Groupe Casino. A historic player in French retailing since 1898, the Casino Group is one of the world leaders in food retailing with more than 12,200 stores worldwide, located in France, Latin America and the Indian Ocean and a turnover of 37.8 billion euro.
In their Annual Report this year, they mentioned an exciting new disruptive project they were working on with a relatively obscure company.

And we have some commentary from SBW featured on Page 42-43 of their Annual Report plugging "the first fully autonomous store in Europe". I'll leave it to readers to determine the significance of being mentioned in the Annual Report of a leading mass-market retail group with billions of Euro in revenue.
The same group who claim to be the source of many innovations such as the first distributor's brand in 1901, the first self-service store in 1948 or even the display of a sell-by date on consumer products in 1959. They are always pushing the boundaries of innovation, and it's an exciting partner to have.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that issuing shares are not the only mechanism by which to raise money. And that a placement at a premium to a sophisticated cornerstone investor can yield great results. Kind of like what happened with 3DP and IHR.
If I was them, I’d be asking Hitachi to chip in.
SBW also have the luxury of generating enough revenue (we are talking USD millions) in 2H20 from the core scales division, that a capital raising may not actually be necessary at this point in time. So they can wait for a better outcome.

The final thing I would like to add (if you have in fact read my other two posts which are worth reading) is coming to an appropriate valuation. This is the tricky part, especially with microcap stocks which are valued on their future potential.
We do know that there are medium to high barriers to entry, and that SBW have accumulated a competitive edge with their technology iterated over several decades, with certain patents in place.
We also know that the opportunity is global in scope with a huge total addressable market (TAM) - and that traditional retail is ripe for disruption.
Remember when there were more human checkout lanes at supermarkets than self-checkout? Now it's the other way around. We are even starting to see self-checkout in Bunnings. The trend for autonomous and friction-less shopping - what some term "Grab & Go" - was inevitable. And coronavirus has only accelerated this trend.

So if you ask me, when you consider all the different technology projects SBW are working on - most of which we now know are "close to commercialisation*" - is 45m AUD market cap really fair value for something that has the potential to roll out globally? I personally think it is still undervalued, but the market will eventually decide one way or the other.
Even at 70 cents per share, the implied market cap with only 139 million shares on issue is about ~97 million AUD. Which is still less than 100m. And still quite low when you compare SBW's proven technology and revenue to a lot of unproven technology companies with no real customers whatsoever. And extremely low when you compare SBW's market cap to their collaborative partner Hitachi (ranked 38th in the 2012 Fortune Global 500).
Even at 32 cents as it currently stands, we are still below the IPO price when SBW first listed at 35 cents per share. How does that make any sense?

...“You know what I'm here for!” Effie’s words rang out as Ernie watched on at the unexpected turn of events.
“The funny thing is I really don’t know.” Ernie stood there and took in the scene. Was this the first time he had seen this type of outburst in the District? Ernie tried to recall, but now wasn’t really the time to reminisce on bad memories.
Something was afoot. Something about Ugo threatening them that was for sure. But if Ugo wanted somebody to fight him this would never be his plan of attack. “Would you care to enlighten me then, I wouldn’t mind this either way!” Ernie shouted back, his tone was neutral, the tension of the situation only increased, but he didn’t see a need to fight back even now.
“They sent us here, because they wanted us to steal your notebook!” Ernie heard the voice of Jenny behind a tree.
Things started to make sense to Ernie, the hiding, why it wasn’t Odin’s people doing this, and that outburst. “And what do you two intend to do?” Ernie moved his backpack from his back to carrying it on one arm.
“Well if you help us, you could send them a fake notebook! It’s not like we like those fuckers anyways!” Jenny replied beyond the trees.
Well that wasn’t so difficult was it, it only took one or maybe both of their ire to get to this arrangement. Ernie weighed this against the prospect that they were lying to him, but if it came down to it it would just be either a fight now or a fight later. “Alright I’ll help you! I’ll be in my cabin manuscripting! You two wait outside, this will take less than an hour!” Ernie shouted back over as he started to walk back to his cabin.
“Your funeral..wait what?!” Effie flipped as Jenny clapped an arm on her, “We did it, we can get out of this shitty situation.”
Effie looked around, The Murder receded back into herself. “Did that really just happen?” She held out the hope that it really would be that easy, she wanted to believe it but she felt a slight pang of confusion, guilt maybe?
Jenny continued on, “We just have to make sure that he does his end of the deal and we’ll be out of here in no time.” Jenny looked at Effie’s face as she noticed the change in expression, “You okay there? You let out a bunch just now and if you wanted to talk about it.”
“No I’m ok, come on we have to still keep an eye on him.” Effie brushed Jenny’s arm off and made her way closer into the clearing with Jenny following.
Well, that was somewhat anticlimactic. If you were hoping for a match with some more carnage in it, how about checking out a race out of a monster-filled urn and voting on it?
Scenario:
Sound’s Garden Eastern Strip - Heartache Casino VIP Room
“So kind of you all to come again,” a man dressed garishly in gold spoke to a roomful of wealthy highrollers, a lounge area with a wall taken up by a screen large enough to make the place double as something of a particularly cozy home theater, a setup which had typically been reserved for two things: watching games organized by Heartache Casino’s owner on the closed-circuits of buildings he owned, and being rented out for private parties and banquets.
“This is pretty unconventional,” a dark-haired sniper remarked between drinks, staring at the screen as it showed, largely, several shots of a building in Downtown Los Fortuna, which seemed to have rapidly grown occupied by a small group of Stand Users, some of whom familiar to the district’s regulars after some close shaves in the subways both occupied, “but it’s brilliant… Just needed to get your tech guy to get cameras in there, now you have a huge show for free.”
“Should you be drinking, Seido?” The gold-clad owner asked, raising an eyebrow, “I mean, if something comes up…”
“If something comes up, I’m off-duty, I’m just a guest right now, and I can shoot well enough sloshed to get myself out of a bind. If you wanted me as security, you should’ve hired me for that… Though really, I’d have rather been down there raising some hell if I was gonna shoot things.”
Tigran sighed, finding that fair enough, he supposed… He wasn’t going to hire this man when he was buzzed, and he wouldn’t do guard detail for free either. Apparently, the man literally came to the city walking out of a bar into the flag unveiling, so he shouldn’t have been surprised.
Still, though, even with moods high here, nobody seeming to mind the way anonymous characters like Oh No and Conqueror Worm mingled among them. Sure, they were kind of a low-priority target right now, with protests in the Business district, the hell-on-earth about to be unleashed Downtown keeping their worst nightmares busy, and the usual BS in places like the Waterfront and Industrial, but the man once noted for his supremely smarmy overconfidence had been feeling more anxious lately, probably because the Entertainment District’s criminal underground had taken some losses recently.
Things were riding high with several successful games, and the arrival of Conqueror Worm, revitalizing everything that they had thought they’d known and opening up whole new possibilities of what games might be possible to organize from a place of safety, all while not asking for a penny of payment. He was a weird guy, but a valuable asset, and all that was understood to be asked in return was that they pretend not to know exactly who it was underneath that big fleshy suit.
And then, the next time they had an in-person event, a bunch of them died in a fire, and on the way to… Well, who knew why he was there, but something happened that got a formerly active manager and ‘game’ organizer murdered blocks away from the site of the flames. Was it a sign, then, that the old ways really were dying, that they needed to change with the times or lose this subculture of theirs entirely?
Maybe, and maybe some would leave it like that, but Tigran “Golden” Sins knew another source of common ground with every one of their games to go wrong, to go awry, to risk the future and safety of all that they were, all that they had. Everything (besides that time he got punched in the face) that had gone wrong, from Thutmose leaving them, to events that were supposed to be disastrous bloodbaths going well for the ‘players’ and ruining bets, could trace back somewhere.
And she was sitting there looking very disinterested, nursing a sparkling juice in a very expensive evening dress and earrings, recently bought by the only man in the world he believed to be above himself.
“Having a good time, Metra?” Fox asked the star known to much of the city as TD/MD, smiling smoothly and paying her more attention than the event itself, where he was significantly more public than before. He’d spent how many thousands on her in a few days?
“Sure, yeah,” she answered, with a clear disinterest and foul mood.
“I understand if you’re not… we’re all sorry to have lost Thutmose. Most likely by where he was, whoever killed him would have done the same to us had he not interfered. So he would want you to have a good time, right?”
“Alright, everyone, last calls!” Conqueror Worm called out, many eyes looking all over. After getting back from camera work, he’d volunteered to handle bets, on account of his utter disinterest in profiting from his work there. Damn shame, honestly; Tigran loved that weird golden Stand-hurting sword he’d always been swinging around, and something belonging to a regional founder would be a hell of a get to wear around. “We know all the key players in that little downtown scuffle, so let’s hear it! Who’s biting it? Who’s comin’ out? Who’s gonna have the highest bodycount? Is anyone even gonna get IN?”
That Oh No guy, from the Institute, spoke up through that voice changer he almost always had on in his coverings. “I think that… Three people will manage to find their way inside. Nobody on this betting board.”
“Ooh, bold words from our boldest regular!” Worm leaned in close, asking, “how much’re you puttin’ on that?”
“Nothing,” No responded, “I just want to see what comes of it… I’m almost disappointed you needed to ask.”
Peas in a pod, those two. Tigran sighed, figuring he might need to drink through these proceedings, only to glance at Metra, suddenly, seeming to smirk, ears twitching as if that special pitch of hers had picked something up. “What? What’s so fun now, that-”
The heavily reinforced, hidden doorway to the VIP room burst open, bisecting the hollow yet burly door guard as sand and rocks spilled out of its hollow crevasse, the only herald within seconds of a quintet of Stand Users barreling in, led by a trio on two motorbikes as two others, curious but energetic, followed.
“All that you’ve done ends here, Fox!”
Around the same time, Heartache Casino Public Floors
“Uh… Glitch? I think… it might be good if we… go?” William Eyelash was not liking it here very much. His hyperactive coworker and teammate had practically dragged him here after what was otherwise a simple delivery performed in place of Zebra, who had been busy enough delivering food to the other side of the city. William was the one supposed to carry it out, but Glitch had practically jumped at the opportunity to do so.
Glitch herself, meanwhile, seemed to be very content eating some fries which she (very regrettably) had to actually buy instead of simply snatching it away from a poor, unaware bystander, and had already ordered another plate because they were just that good. Security was too tight, somewhat on edge - the moment she got close to someone or something, they immediately turned their attention to her. Still, she didn’t want to deprive herself of one of the many pleasures of life like that, so she didn’t mind paying too much. “Mmrgh..? Why sho?”
“W- well… you know… uh...” William wasn’t sure how to say it - he was scared enough of Glitch’s erratic mannerisms most days, and that was while he tried to steer clear of her. Were he to directly oppose her, he’d have no way of knowing what she’d do! On top of that, he couldn’t help but notice that she seemed slightly… on edge. She was usually hyperactive, but she seemed to be even more eager to jump from one thing to another recently, and to ignore anything that even slightly stressed her out. Considering everything that happened to the staff at the Elephant Bones recently, it made sense for her to be stressed, even if she didn’t really show it usually. “... um, you know the rumors about this place… right? ”
Glitch turned to look at William, tilting her head “Hm? What rumors?”. “Uh... well… about the ED… and the fighting rings… I saw an article about it on the Hermod, and… i- it could be dangerous to be here for too long...” hearing William say that, Glitch seemed to recede for a bit, thinking to herself. “Mmm... well, it hasn’t been a problem yet! Right? Besides, the other chips haven’t arrived yet!” Glitch didn’t want to think much about it - so long as these fighting rings were away from her, she could just ignore them and go on with her life, but if it really was here, then maybe it would be good to avoid this place… but the fries were so good... Glitch took another look at the table she was sitting at and at the plate of fries she’d ordered. She grabbed a handful and ate them. “Mmm… after the second order of chips comes! Then we leave! But only after then!”
“Alright...” William didn’t like this very much, and he couldn’t help but shoot nervous glances around as Glitch finished up. Just about every staff member here was on edge and uncomfortable - he knew how to notice these things, and it would make sense if this place really was connected to the underground. Ugh… Why did he come along with Glitch? He’d just have to hope that the second order would come soon, and then they’d be able leave just as quickly as they came in.
Naturally, as if fate itself had conspired to screw him over, he couldn’t help but pick up on ‘something’. Guards around the floor peered nervously into their phones, and most of them began rushing towards the stairwell. Glitch had noticed as well, her ears picking up on the nervous murmurings of the guards and their hasty footsteps.
“Uhh… G- Glitch, something’s happening, we should-” “Pleh! Can’t you wait just a second! The chips aren’t here yet! This isn’t-”
Before Glitch could finish her sentence, something flew into the room - the body of a security officer, clearly tossed away by some stand, flew from the entrance to the second floor, and landed right in the middle of a group of more security officers.
“Oh god oh god it’s happening oh no oh no oh no oh-” William was, as expected, positively freaking out by now. Meanwhile, Glitch was keeping her ears peeled out, having picked up on something… interesting. The voice of two people she vaguely recognized from “Taste of Fortuna” a month or so back.
“Hey! That’s Agnes! And that other chef whose food is good! Even better than the chips!! What are they doing here, fighting?!”
Soon enough, Agnes and Arpeggi really did pop into the room, their stands summoned as they staved off some guards with them. Much to William’s chagrin, Glitch grabbed onto his hand and summoned [Vida Loca], before hopping onto it, the massive feline hoisting him onto it as well, before running right towards the source of the commotion…
And right into the footpath of a terrifying giant who seemed to suddenly fall from the ceiling, several eyes along its body looking to them as its head rotated 180 degrees. “Well, wouldn’t you like to know?”
Several minutes earlier, A Few Stories Lower - Sound’s Garden Abandoned Subway
“Are you sure this is the place? Seems pretty fucking trashy to me, honestly…”
“That’s what makes it a secret passage, Agnes… They’re not exactly rolling out the red carpet to tell you how to get there.”
“Ugh, Astronomia wasn’t built for this shit. You’re paying if something gets stuck somewhere.”
“You’ve crashed it how many times this month alone?”
Arpeggi Osso Buco sat in the sidecar of a motorbike driven by one Ananas “Agnes” Bayley, through the abandoned subways of the Eastern strip. He’d meant to take this trip alone, like he had before, but of course, this fucking guy had to be the first on the team to learn that he was a Stand User, an active vigilante, and not only in part responsible for a certain cult’s influence plummeting to nothing in Los Fortuna, but had dedicated himself to making an enemy of the blight of the Entertainment District.
“Fuck it, I’m down.”
“You’re… What?”
“I’m down. Fuck those guys. I don’t even need to ask any more questions, they’re an absolute disgrace to be shown up by a real villain, and if you’re hunting their boss down, I’m with you.”
“You are the last person I would want watching my back in a-”
“Or I can tell Gabanna what you’re doing so soon after getting SHOT last time you tried your luck with these guys.”
“…bastard. Okay, just don’t get in the way.”
Minus a near-scare with RCR’s nightmarish train nearly running them down without noticing, and Arpeggi having to explain at some point that it was both private information from a set of informants and news now publicly printed in multiple sources about the higher-ups of this organization, it had mostly gone smoothly since then.
As they drove closer to the underside of Heartache, Arpeggi signaled for Agnes to stop, noting a destroyed set of hollowed-out mannequins of sorts, smoking and smelling like gunpowder.
“Hell is that?” Agnes asked, looking down, but Arpeggi, in turn, didn’t quite seem surprised. Before he could explain, however, another, distorted voice cut through.
“You’re late.”
The revving of a second motorcycle, a sport bike, had quietly synced with Astronomia, and the pair looked up to see a figure clad in orange and black, winglike scarf drooping upside-down, its rider atop the ceiling of the tunnel.
“You.” Agnes spoke with contempt, despite having never seen the Black Angel in person before, only for them and their bike to drop down right in front of them, flipping in midair to land gracefully.
“You didn’t tell me you were bringing a friend, let alone… Him.” The Angel sounded dubious about Agnes’ presence, adding, “since you took time picking him up, I’ve had to start picking off these weird… hollow doll-guards myself. They almost noticed me in time to signal the boss. I really don’t have the time for this today.”
“Sorry about that, he insisted,” Arpeggi wrote off, not wanting to explain the somewhat unsurprising (“ran into one another while doing their vigilante rounds, got to talking about the ED mainly”) story how he and the Angel met, “and he’s here right now… Say what you like about him, you saw that Being So Normal, I assume. He’ll be an asset.”
“I’ll kick your ass-et,” Agnes grumbled, “fighting them alone my ass. Ugh, teaming up with masked hero types like this… Pisses me off. We should be kicking each other’s asses, Angel.”
“Deal with it,” the Angel wrote off, before adding, “our contacts in there… They said basically everyone we might have any reason to get is on that floor with them, watching Downtown.”
“Right, some madman is acting out there,” Arpeggi noted, folding his arms and looking Westward, “I take it that’s why you’re in a hurry? You want to deal with them quickly and head out there next?”
“You got it,” they answered, “and admittedly, there’s a reason I had to come here first… Something I’m going to prioritize the highest, and if we take too long, I’ll have to leave having only done that.”
“You’ve got a grudge, is that it?” Agnes asked, “you wanna punt some fucker before moving on?”
“That’s… not why I’m targeting him,” The Angel noted, before adding, “that sword the Conqueror Worm always has on him… The ‘Sword of Sir Aurel…’ The future of the city might depend on me getting that Downtown. The contacts say he still has it with him, just like on that stream.”
“You’re pissing me off, pretending you don’t care about just one-upping that bastard,” Agnes chided, adding, “act like you’re ‘heroes of justice’ all you want… I’m doing this because these guys piss me the hell off, and seeing them fall will make me laugh. Do all of us a favor, cut the bullshit, and admit you’re gonna enjoy this, yeah?”
The others didn’t say too much more of note, then, beyond the Angel briefly examining Astronomia, putting something all over it that they claimed would ‘make it maneuver better,’ which Arpeggi had to calm Agnes into accepting, especially considering it meant they could ride up stairs with relative ease.
“Alright, from this secret passage, it’s a straight shot up a few flights of stairs to the VIP room… We should be able to burst it down without ever disrupting all the public patrons and fortifications up on 1F. Hold on tight, you got that?”
The motorbikes revved, then, and the Angel’s led Agnes in seeming to leap into the air, driving up and along the walls of the stairwell, before a long-haired figure emerged from the Angel, aiming something at a metal reinforced door, firing into it a few times, and it shifted in place as Pork Soda rushed towards it, placing a tab on the material before ripping it away, liquid metal blasting in the opposite direction the door would fly and swing at rapid speed, swinging like a deadly projectile and cutting more powerful puppet guards away as the three burst in.
Arpeggi called out, “All that you’ve done ends here, Fox!”
Not long after Arpeggi called that out, Fox himself, of course, was quick to stand, as were a few bold-looking members of the crowd, hurrying towards the fighters with his own accompanying doll-guard, small enough to hold in two hands and, with his large frame, swing like a hammer-thrower, lobbing up towards them and bursting open into a mess of pointed rocks as he drew closer, repelling Arpeggi’s immediate attempts to approach.
The swinging door, embedded with odd screws and still gushing metal soda, began to fly towards him, only for the sound of a rifle to fill the room, a single warping bullet putting out every one of the odd screws and careening it to strike Arpeggi back, sending him flying down the stairwell before either the Angel or Agnes could react.
Seido, sitting at his edge of the bar, finished downing his drink, holding his weapon in one hand and grinning a bit, slurring slightly, “thas’ goin’ on your tab, boss…”
Fox smirked, then, rocks and sand swirling around him and beating back the remaining attackers’ efforts to burst forward. “Let’s not fight up here, gentlemen… I’ve set this place up nice for a very special guest. Take it downstairs. Seido, consider yourself on the clock now.”
Worm, then, seemed to realize the Angel was staring at his movements, diving down into the floor below to the terror of the 1F patrons, and the rider hurriedly cut away from the clash, leaving Agnes to fend for himself against the rocky onslaught of Fox, all while Oh No watched and Seido, quickly, lined up another shot. Even on this upgraded bike, he knew the only response to make there. “Fffuck this!”
Pork Soda reached for Astronomia, a tab appearing on its wheel which, as the Stand weathered rocky blows, it pulled, blasting Agnes back into the stairwell, where he hit the wall with an, “oof!” before hopping off of his ride, which crashed and plummeted down as he abandoned it to slide down the railing, doing a cool combat roll to cover Arpeggi and the Angel as they rolled into the first floor, clearly concerned about what Conqueror Worm being there would mean for the patrons. Fox and others were shortly behind, with a certain exception.
Though nobody could hear it, by Metra Doria’s choice, as soon as Seido had spoken that aloud, she’d kicked up the chair she’d been sulking in all ‘party’ long, a pair of headphones appearing along her neck as a blast of sonic energy kicked it directly into the head of the hitman. Her heart skipped a beat, then, and she muttered under her breath, “shit, that actually worked… I got lucky, huh?”
“Entirely,” Oh No agreed, stepping forth himself and stretching, producing a very large, intimidating revolver from his cloak and beginning, idly, to load it, “but don’t treat that as a failing, TD/MD… You saw a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and you had the instincts to take it.” No closed the chamber, starting leisurely towards the stairs after the rest. “This is getting tiresome, isn’t it? You see it too, how dull this has gotten… What potential they’re wasting here. What do you say we speed along what’s been a long, long time coming?”
“Well, wouldn’t you like to know?”
A golden, shining sword appeared out of the giant’s gross hand, and his presence alone made Glitch want to wretch, the smell of the Conqueror Worm fell, and vibes even more rancid.
“We got two more troublemakers here, eh?” Worm asked her and William with an amused tone, “Hell just broke loose here, and you’re tryin’ to run headlong into it! I like that! I like that drive! So what do ya say? Attacka them!”
Glitch didn’t know this guy, but something about his gleeful nature, the way that William murmured to himself in alarm when he spoke those distorted words, made her hairs stand on end, made her want to hiss and immediately turn her attention to him, and it seemed, then, that Worm could sense this.
“Another one who ain’t a fan, huh?” He shook his head. “Disappointing, but typical.”
At that, he ducked into the floor, before attempting to burst out from underneath and drive his blade up into Vida Loca, barely being scraped before hopping away from the rising attack and meeting it with a sharp, harsh claw, beating back his raw strength with her Stand’s own.
“I don’t know who you are, but you’re really not the kind of bad news that’s any fun!” Glitch called out from atop her mount, pulling off in time to avoid the ambush of a hollowed-out guard and note two others bothering William.
“That guy looks underage… He ain’t allowed to be on a casino floor without ID!” Worm declared with amusement, fully expecting what came next as several of the doll-guards attempted to strong-arm him.
“G-get away… Get away from me!” William was freaking out, then, and fairly fearing for his life, allowed Ocean Eyes to manifest, swinging and spraying acid all around, which bounced uselessly off of Worm’s hide, didn’t so much as drop near Glitch or Vida Loca, and melted away the threats in an instant.
The casino floor was pandemonium then, several high rollers, some random patrons, and of course, every named member fighting, Stands flying. Arpeggi expertly caught rocks tossed by Fox, only for him to still control them even as they were made to burn by NEXT LEVEL 2, though this eroded away much of the sands of his barrier, backed up by Agnes as he very competently kept a rocky barrier up regardless, Metra standing close by, shifting her eyes. The Black Angel tried to drive headlong into Worm, continuing his mess of a situation, while Glitch, mostly, managed to sneak off on her own, trying to find a way to support William and calm him out of whatever this was.
“Don’t move,” a modulated voice behind her said, and she heard something click behind her.
“Mrr?” She turned, then, facing the barrel of Oh No’s revolver head-on.
“This might be a bit loud… But it’s about time this ended.”
Before Glitch could react, No had pulled the trigger twice. Neither shot so much as grazed her, but seemed to hit tables, cameras, walls, ricocheting about in apparent chaos, before finally…
“I… What did…” Blood ran down the organizational ringleader’s outfit, bleeding both from a massive wound to the back of his knee and opening a massive hole in his shoulder, as the rocks he had been flinging around dropped like… Rocks.
Tigran’s voice was the next thing to ring out through the casino, now mostly abandoned bar the combatants.
“TOBY!!!”
Fox hadn’t even heard the shots fired, thanks to Metra, let alone noticed their angles; after all, the only one he knew of who could make a shot like that was knocked out and drunk upstairs, not to mention loyal to Tigran’s paychecks.
No twirled his gun around, holstering it and patting the bewildered Glitch on the shoulder. “Thanks for holding still… Didn’t want to hit you and ruin it all, after all. Hmmhmmhmahaha!"
“You… You motherfuckers!” Tigran wanted to cry then, especially as the others drew closer, seeing everyone who had fought against an ally of his here as little more than an enemy. Still, though, facing them off, he had to calm himself.
“Stand down,” Arpeggi demanded, “you’re outnumbered, completely.”
Tigran, rather than giving up, began to speak again. “You know, as the owner of this casino, I know the power of ‘games’. You see, if you call it a ‘gamble’, that sounds so… negative, no? So you call it nothing more than a simple ‘game’. That’s what draws people in. Getting people to play ‘roulette’ is harder, but if you call it a ‘roulette game’ and mask it correctly, it’s so, so, easy… However, the moment the ball is launched, it doesn’t matter, does it? No difference between a ‘gamble’ and a ‘game’... the ‘contract’ is the same - you abandon your money for ‘entertainment’ and for a slim ‘hope’ that you’ll succeed this time and make bank… It’s all thanks to these ‘games’... All of you lot, don’t you think so? Aren’t ‘games’ great? Hell, I’ve got an idea for one we can play right now…”
“Wh- what the hell are you talking about!” Arpeggi shouted out in anger. “I’m not putting up with this shit! You want a ‘game’?! Sure, fine! A look behind him revealed that Agnes, Glitch, William, and even Metra, the Angel, and No seemed to be feeling the same, struggling to remain upright.
“Y- you ‘agreed’... heh…” Tigran’s previously panicked expression quickly faded, replaced by a wide grin. “You agreed to it! You agreed to the ‘game’!” By now, Tigran broke out into uproarious laughter. “Always! They always fall for it, tempted by ‘games’! You… you idiot! I put the answer right in front of you, and you still missed it! ‘Games’, by their very nature, are tricks! Illusions! And my [The Grid] has the power to facilitate that! By agreeing to the game, my [The Grid] forces you to participate! There’s no escape now - you’re trapped in this ‘game’ of mine!”
As he realized he had screwed them all right at the last moment, Arpeggi’s vision began fading, and he fell onto the ground with a thud, blacking out.
???, an hour later, Heartache Casino VIP room
“Alright! Seems like our contestants for the first impromptu match of the day are waking up!”
“Plrrr..?” Out of nowhere, Glitch found herself standing straight, awake, somewhere unfamiliar. She tried to listen to see what was going on, only hearing the groans of William, Agnes, and Arpeggi, indicating that they were in a similar position to her. Of course, there was also that voice - she was… a ‘contestant’. It wasn’t hard to roughly figure out what exactly she was a ‘contestant’ of. She, and...
“...William!” Behind her was a whimpering noise, evidently William, and the sound of droplets of some kind of liquid splashing onto the ground, clearly [Ocean Eyes]’s acid. Ahead of her were Agnes and Arpeggi, talking between themselves about what the hell happened. Arpeggi sounded mad. Agnes… she wasn’t sure how he sounded. But she gathered enough from their conversation to understand that somehow, they were currently inside of a roulette wheel. Or rather, she, and everyone else, was shrunk, and placed into a roulette wheel.
“Now, this match is simple - a deathmatch to see who manages to survive! However, since we’re at the heartache casino… there’s an appropriate twist involved! See, our combatants for today are fighting on a roulette table, and meanwhile, our spectators for today are placing ‘bets’ to see which colors win out! Representing ‘red’, we’ve got our very own ‘Fox’! On black, meanwhile, we’ve got ‘Tigran Sins’, who set this match up!”
She summoned [Vida Loca] besides her, taking a look through the stand’s eyes and seeing the environment for herself. She was dwarfed by the room, trapped inside of this small roulette wheel. There was nowhere to run. William’s whimpers had escalated into sobbing, as [Ocean Eyes] hugged him from behind. Arpeggi and Agnes were arguing by now, shouting at each other. She took a deep breath.
“Now… I won’t keep you waiting any longer, since I just know everyone here’s excited to see what happens! So...”
First, Glitch got tossed into Los Fortuna and found a new home there, with the rest of the staff at the Elephant Bones. Then, they started getting into fights with other stand users - Shelldrake, Effie, Byte, William. She hadn’t been in one yet, but she knew very well the effects of them. Her friends had gotten hurt, some such as Father Blue even dying. Then the situation in the slums got worse, her home becoming less and less safe by the minute, her friends getting extorted and forced to work for ODIN, and now she and William were trapped here.
“Three… Two… One...”
She needed to get out. She needed to fight. She needed to win. She could overhear Agnes and Arpeggi bickering on the other side of the wheel, but knew that they were going to try and fight her and William as well. They had to. They’d been trapped by that man’s stand, and none of them knew what could be done against it, if anything.
[Vida Loca] stood behind her, a constant vibration coming out of it and creating a loud hissing noise that was soon mimicked by [Ocean Eyes], drowning out William’s sobs. She knew full well that, even if he was her friend, William was also a dangerous killer, meek though he might have acted. As hard as that whole situation was to grasp, she understood something else - that the more she stayed near [Ocean Eyes], working alongside it, the safer she was. She and William had to get out of this. And if they wanted to get out of this...
They would have to fight for their lives.

Location: A roulette wheel in Heartache Casino, upon which players have been forcibly placed.
The map here is roughly similar to the image of the roulette wheel above. The outer brown layer represents the rim, the yellow layer being the wooden slopes down towards the center, the black layer being the numbers, the red layer being the pockets, the next layer being sloped wood up towards the center, and the center being a metal tower.
The map is 30 by 30 meters relative to the players, with the dotted tile being 5 by 5 meters.
The diamonds are the metal bumpers, about half a meter tall, and the blue circle is a weighted metal roulette ball which is a meter tall, both heights relative to the players.
The metal tower in the center is 8 meters tall relative to the players and the outside walls are 5 meters relative to the players. Players can not go past the rim of the roulette wheel.
Goal: RETIRE your opponents!
Additional Information:
There is an invisible barrier keeping the players and their Stands inside the roulette wheel. Everything else will pass through as normal, but the players and their attacks will be blocked by this barrier. The barrier is cylindrical around the entire roulette wheel.
The roulette system is currently automatic, 5 seconds after the ball falls into a pocket or stops moving entirely, it will start rolling again at top speed clockwise. The max speed of the ball is equivalent to B SPD and the ball is A DUR. You can expect it to make around 8 revolutions around the wheel before losing most of its speed if it is unimpeded by the players.
If the ball is destroyed or unable to roll, a new one will be thrown in from outside.
