Need help coming up with a board game I can DIY make for my grandfather for Christmas.

My grandfather is very very difficult to get gifts for, and its only gotten more difficult since my grandmother died last year. Too many memories can get triggered by certain things. But last year my mother instituted a DIY Christmas, and I hit on a winner. I made him the game Quoridor. I'm not really a fantastically crafty person, but this was simple enough, just a wood panel, square glass tiles glued on for the spaces, rectangular glass tiles for the walls, a couple of wooden peg people for game pieces, and a printout of the rules. He LOVED it. We've played almost every time we've gotten together this year.
So anyways, I was hoping I could figure out a similarly easy DIY board game I could make for him this year. Couldn't think of any right off, so hopefully y'all can help. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I've settled on Mijnlieff for this year's gift. I will definitely be checking out some of these other suggestions in the future though. Thanks for all the help!
