Cheaper ways to transfer money than Bitcoin?

I just transferred money out of my bovada for the first time. I used the method of sending the money into my blockchain wallet and then into my coinbase wallet, and sending it to blockchain didn't cost anything but I had to pay over $15 to send a measly $100 from my blockchain to my coinbase wallet. Does anyone know a way that is cheaper? Are there any other cryptos I could use that have lower transaction fees, or a method of sending the money from bovada directly into coinbase, or a different app that can receive bovada payments and let me send it to my bank account? Im not working with a lot of money when I'm gambling since I'm a college student so I will take any method that I can to reduce these fat transaction fees.

New Era of Online Crypto Casinos

I would say that I'm relatively new to Reddit and the one thing that surprised me is the number of people that still play on Bovada, Ignition, Betonline, MyBookie, etc. Don't get me wrong, great sites for sports betting and poker, but absolutely horrendous when it comes to slots and live casino games.
Hitting 1,000x on a slot on Bovada is like a once in a lifetime achievement and the live dealer provider is... awful.
Over the past month or so, I have seen this Reddit flooded with random users promoting a bunch of shitty no-name crypto casinos that have been around for like 3 days. So I figured it was my duty, as somebody who has no ownership interests in any of these online crypto casinos, to share my thoughts regarding the ones that I believe are trustworthy. All of which is based on first-hand experience and countless hours of research.
First off, for those who aren't familiar with crypto casinos, the one thing that you need to know, as an American, is that you'll need to access these sites via a VPN. Personally, I use ExpressVPN and connect to Canada (or various other regions depending on which slot provider is available). The nice thing about ExpressVPN is that you can download the app and play on your phone. All of the casinos listed below allow VPN usage. Apparently NordVPN is pretty good too, but I cannot vouch for them personally.
Second thing, KYC is not required. Honestly haven't looked into this too much, but I can tell you from first-hand experience that KYC is not required in order to register or withdraw funds. All you have to do is confirm your email address. Some people have said you get KYC'd if you try to withdraw more than $2k, but again, I can confirm that it's not true (specifically for the casinos listed below). Just make sure that you only deposit/withdraw via crypto and you'll be fine. If you think this is sketchy, then please, continue making your credit card deposits at Bovada to random shell companies based out of China.
Also, DO NOT USE COINBASE TO TRANSFER TO AND FROM THE CASINO. They banned me. It hurt. Don't make the same mistake. I recommend using BRD as an intermediary between Coinbase and the casino. Since being banned from Coinbase, I have been using crypto.com to buy and sell crypto. Nothing but good things to say thus far.
Finally, I have wagered roughly $3.5MM in total across the sites below and have spent countless hours researching them, so I'd like to think that I somewhat know what I'm talking about. In no way am I an expert and in no way am I a high roller or a whale. Just a regular guy that enjoys gambling.
Now the common theme amongst the below casinos is that you have access to game providers such as Evolution (live games), Pragmatic, NetEnt, Thunderkick, Push, etc. that you'll never find on the casinos advertised as available to US players (such as Bovada). As I'm sure you know, Betsoft slots can get old after a while.
Just a few of my personal favorite games that I recommend you check out...
Live Games: Crazy Time, Monopoly, Evolution Blackjack and Evolution Speed Baccarat
Slots: Dead or Alive 2, Money Train 2, Lil' Devil, Sweet Bonanza and The Dog House

Site #1: Roobet.com (Best for casual gamblers)
What I like: Instant withdrawals, huge selection of slots and live games, generous rakeback system, instant bitcoin deposits (they will credit your account before receiving any confirmations-- this is really nice), every so often they'll run a 24 hour promotion where if you hit 100x on slot betting at least $1 you'll be "King Roo" (basically King of the Hill) and accumulate ~$20 per minute until you're dethroned
What I don't like: Rakeback system only allows you to collect every 24 hrs/1 week/1 month, no clarity surrounding VIP status (assuming you need to be a whale), there was one instance where I won $36k on a $40 bet playing Reactoonz and was told I can only withdraw $10k per day (this was 6 months ago and never had an issue withdrawing since), lack of sports betting
My largest withdrawal (at once): $9.9k
Deposit/Withdrawal Methods: BTC, ETH
Referral link to enable rakeback system without having to wager a shitload: https://roobet.com/?ref=hkgambler13 (you can also use code "hkgambler13")

Site #2: Stake.com (Best for medium-high rollers)
What I like: Instant withdrawals, huge selection of slots and live games, incredible VIP and rakeback system (weekly/monthly bonuses, rakeback can be claimed whenever, daily/monthly challenges to earn extra cash), active and friendly chat community, multiple crytpo deposit options where your account is credited in that currency (meaning your balance equivalent in USD will swing with the market-- could be seen as a con), enjoyable "Stake Original" games that have a higher RTP than 3rd party slots, averages ~2k users online at any given time
What I don't like: Can be overwhelming for first time players (Roobet is much more straight forward and easy to use)
My largest withdrawal: $13.2k
Deposit/Withdrawal Methods: BTC, ETH, LTC, DOGE, BCH, XRP (highly recommend-- cheap transfer fee, if any at all, and confirmed within seconds), TRX, EOS
Referral link to instantly enable 10% rakeback: https://stake.com/?c=6c2f1c60

Site #3: Gamdom.com (Best for gamers)
What I like: Instant withdrawals, huge selection of slots and live games, newly implemented rakeback system, constant "rains" in the chat (which is free money if you join in time), ability to instantly deposit and withdraw via Rust and TF2 items (could spend an hour talking about this-- generally caters to those who cannot get crypto or have to use a CC to buy crypto), averages ~1.5k users online at any given time
What I don't like: Prior to the newly implemented rakeback system rains and level-up chests were the only "rakeback", your balance is denominated in coins (1500 coins = $1 USD), browsing through their slot selection can be a pain in the ass
My largest withdrawal (at once): $7.4k
Deposit/Withdrawal Methods: BTC, ETH, BCH, LTC
Referral link to receive a free chest that could be worth up to ~$53: https://gamdom.com/chase (you can also use code "chase")

Final parting words: PLEASE DO NOT GAMBLE WITH MONEY THAT YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE. Gambling is not a money making method and you will lose in the long run. The purpose of my post is to make those aware that other trustworthy online casinos are available for Americans that will (hopefully) make gambling online a bit more enjoyable!

Bovada Withdraw

So previously, I won a little bit of money and simply took the winnings straight from bovada to cash app. I tried to do that today and it’s saying I can’t use that address. Upon doing a little research I learned most people say not to do that anyways. I have bread wallet, but I got eth stuck in there and I feel like that app is a little to technical for me. Now looking at downloading coin base. Is that my best option and what’s gonna be the easiest way to get it into my cashapp? Thanks in advance

Which awards are locked in? Which are still up for debate? a glance through the odds and campaigns in each category

It feels like it's been 5 years since we've seen actual NBA basketball, which may make awards debates and campaigns more difficult. Wait, who was playing well again...? Dennis Schroder? Seriously? Huh. Okay then.
As we soldier back into the bubble, there's a risk that awards voters will forget about that early part of the season (aka the vast majority) and fall victim to recency bias. Given that, we wanted to glance through the major races and determine which -- if any -- awards may still be in debate.
For this exercise, I'm using the current odds as listed by an online betting site (bovada). Note: the percentages do NOT add up to 100% because online betting sites like your money.
MVP
Giannis Antetokounmpo: - 3500 (97%)
LeBron James: +600 (14%)
is the race over?
This betting site heavily favors Giannis Antetokounmpo, although some other metrics have it closer than that. Basketball-reference's MVP tracker lists Giannis at 50.7% and LeBron at 17.3%.
I'm more inclined to believe the latter and that LeBron James would be closer to 15-20% odds. No doubt, Giannis is a worthy MVP. He's been a dominant force (again) for the top statistical team in the league (again.) He's racking up 30-14-6 in only 30.9 minutes per game. In most circumstances, he'd win this award in a walk.
That said, you can never discount "narrative," and LeBron James has a few of those going for him. The Lakers have vaulted up to the # 1 seed in the West, outperforming preseason expectations. James has played exceptionally well, and even led the league in assists. Partly because of that, James' camp has successfully gotten the media to buy into the storyline that he made a sudden transition to point guard (ya know, because he had always deferred to his point guards like Mo Williams and Mario Chalmers in the past...)
More than that, James may benefit from this strange corona-bubble. He's been a leading advocate for continuing on, and as always, players tend to follow his lead. I can see more than a few media members giving James an MVP vote for "saving the season." All in all, I expect this vote to be closer than it should be (and I expect poor James Harden to finish well behind where he should as well.)
So James will get some votes, but can he actually win the award? I wouldn't rule it out. The Lakers are currently 3 games behind the Bucks for the # 1 overall seed. It's hard to imagine Milwaukee losing enough to slip, but it's not Wallace Shawn inconceivable either. If the Lakers somehow manage to catch them, then I actually think LeBron will win MVP. Of course, it's more likely the Bucks will hang onto the # 1 seed, and Giannis will hang onto MVP. But again, I don't think it's a stone cold lock -- yet.
Rookie of the Year
Ja Morant: - 3500 (97%)
Zion Williamson: +850 (11%)
is the race over?
It should be. Zion Williamson is freakin' amazing, but he's played 19 games so far. That's 40 less than Ja Morant, who has played stellar ball for a rookie from a small school, and somehow led the Memphis Grizzlies to the 8th seed.
Still, we can't rule out the risk of recency bias and a wild overreaction from the media. Williamson has a chance to lead the Pelicans up to the 9th spot, at which point they'd play Morant's Grizzlies. If Williamson can lead New Orleans to two victories over Memphis in a row -- and thus leapfrog them in the standings -- then it's very feasible the media would throw their vote his way. The media (and the league as a whole) tends to like this Zion fella, if you haven't noticed.
Sixth Man
Dennis Schroder: - 220 (69%)
Montrezl Harrell: +190 (34%)
Lou Williams: +450 (18%)
Derrick Rose: +3000 (3%)
is the race over?
Simply put: no. It's still a three-man race in my book. The Clippers' Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell finished 1-2 last season, and are right back in the thick of things this year. Among the two, it's harder to justify Williams' winning for the third season in a row. He hasn't played as well as last year, and hasn't been as big of a focal point for the Clippers' game plan.
With Sweet Lou taking a slight step back, it's opened the door for Dennis Schroder. He's having a career season in terms of efficiency. In fact, it's hard to understate his jump this year. In his six previous seasons, his career high true shooting percentage was only 53.3%. This season? He's vaulted up to 57.3%. The question is: have enough voters noticed? OKC has been a feel-good story this year, but Chris Paul and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tend to get the most credit for that.
Overall, I wouldn't be surprised if voters get lazy and just fall back on the highest scorer among the three. And even by those standards, the race is wide open. Schroder is at 19.0 PPG, Williams is at 18.7 PPG, and Harrell is at 18.6 PPG. A strong (or bad) week or two in the bubble may tilt this race in any direction.
Defensive Player of the Year
Giannis Antetokounmpo: -500 (83%)
Anthony Davis: +200 (33%)
Rudy Gobert: +2800 (3%)
is the race over?
Even among savvy and analytically-inclined media members, "defense" is still something of a mystery to quantify. We see a lot of herd mentality emerge for DPOY voting, with candidates needing to stake their claim early on and campaign all season long.
In terms of storylines and narratives, it felt like Anthony Davis had the early momentum. He's a wrecking ball (1.5 steals, 2.4 blocks) who helped improve the Lakers' defense from # 12 to # 3 this season. Still, Giannis Antetokounmpo has steadily built his case for a double MVP + DPOY, and currently ranks as the betting favorite on this site.
Personally, I believe it's a closer race than these numbers suggest. At the same time, I'm not sure what their play in the bubble is going to do about it. More likely, it'll be an influential media piece (like Zach Lowe pushing for Marc Gasol) that may get voters ushering on one side or another.
Most Improved
Bam Adebayo: -150 (60%)
Brandon Ingram: +250 (29%)
Luka Doncic: +500 (17%)
Jayson Tatum: +900 (10%)
Devonte Graham: +1000 (9%)
is the race over?
Again, this race feels "too close to call" to me. John King and David Chalian may be tallying up the counties all night long.
Earlier this season, I looked back at previous Most Improved winners and tried to find some common threads. On average, the winner improved from 11.7 PPG to 19.6 PPG (roughly +8 points.)
Historically speaking, Brandon Ingram and Jayson Tatum fit close to those templates. Ingram has swelled from 18.3 PPG to 24.3 PPG in his first season in New Orleans (+6). Tatum has made an even bigger leap, going from 15.7 PPG to 23.6 PPG (essentially our exact +8). Of the two, I may lean more to Ingram myself. Tatum's taking more shots and more threes, but he was already considered a proven star prior to this. Ingram had been more of a question mark before, but has now established himself as a potential max player. The key for him has been an improved FT%. In his first three seasons, he shot 62%, 68%, and 68% from the line. This year, he's up to 86%. That's major progress, and represents a massive difference in his efficiency "floor." Still, you wonder if Ingram's momentum peaked too early. Ever since Zion Williamson came back, it feels like Ingram has been an afterthought in the media.
Conversely, Bam Adebayo's reputation within the media is still surging. He's been a major reason for the Miami Heat's success this year, nearly doubling from 8.9 PPG to 16.2 PPG (+7.3 overall.) He's also doubled his assists (from 2.2 to 5.1). If you wanted to nitpick Adebayo's candidacy, you may suggest he was pretty darn good already. A lot of the statistical upswing comes from an increase in minutes, from 23.3 to 34.4 this year.
Overall, I'd say Abebayo is the favorite, but I wouldn't lock it in yet. A player like Brandon Ingram could get hot and have a few 40 point games, at which point the momentum may swing back in his favor.

How to Get Money Out of Poker sites Using Cryptocurrency. A guide.

I wanted to provide a definitive guide for those trying to find the quickest and cheapest way to get their winnings/initial deposit out of various poker sites through the means of cryptocurrency.
This guide does not recommend cryptocurrency trading and even if you follow all of these steps, there is still a risk for currency fluctuations. It took a lot for me to figure this out and I wanted to pay it forward and help those in the future learn this valuable information. I take no responsibility for the accuracy of this guide, but I will say this is the method I now use. Various state laws can make each step more difficult. However, this method is tailored to the strictest of laws that affect Cryptocurrency issued by New York state.
Ok, so you got some money and want to get it out of a poker or gambling site. Checks are offered, but who has time for that 4 week turnaround on what could be a bad check. So you have decided to get into Cryptocurrency. Here is how the money gets to your bank.
Poker site -> Wallet -> Exchange -> Bank.
1st Step - Getting the money out of your poker account. So you request a withdrawal in cryptocurrency. But which currency? There is Bitcoin (the original), Bitcoin Cash (the fork), Ethereum (New Cool Kid), Tether or Dai (stablecoin) Bitcoin SV, Litecoin, etc.... There are benefits to each currency. Bitcoin is the original and most well known. It is the most traded by far with a market cap (total value) more than all other cryptocurrencies combined. There is also a well established group of people holding bitcoin as an investment to the future. However, Bitcoin also has the most fees and slowest transaction times depending on the fee you pay. Personally I use Ether and Bitcoin Cash. They are based on new versions of blockchain, transfer quickest between wallets and exchanges, and have lower transfer fees. I have not used Dai and Tether, but I will go into stablecoin later.
Step 2 - The Wallet. The wallet is where your money from the pokersite will go. I want to make it very clear. You do not want your money to go from the pokersite to the exchange. The exchange can and will learn it is from a pokersite which can cause you a lot of problems later on. In particular, running a foul of U.S laws and regulations on gaming. So you want the money to go to your wallet. I recommend either Exodus or if you just want Bitcon, Blockstream Green. Exodus though is my go to. You can use it online or through your mobile device. It will automatically scan deposit and withdraw codes for you (this is extremely important so you don't mess up where your money goes). It also has a nice sleek interface and accepts most cryptocurrencies. One thing to point out, Exodus was designed for bitcoin miners at one point who wanted their money out quickly. So, when using bitcoin, it sends and receives your money out as quick as possible using higher fees. You may be concerned by this. However, now you got crypto, lets get it to your exchange.
Step 3 - The Exchange. So there are many exchanges, where you convert your crypto to other crypto or even cash. The three most popular in the US are Cash App, Coinbase, and Gemini. Cash App is easy, if you can set it up. If there is an issue with Cash App, good luck. Their customer support is non-existent (this actually led me to use Coinbase). Basically, you send the money from your wallet to CashApp and then sell the bitcoin in the app. About 20 minutes later the money is in the app and can be sent to your bank. There are various fees, I believe 1.5% to sell the coin, 1.5% to ACH to your account or 1.75% for instant credit to your bank account. I personally use Coinbase Pro. It costs me .5% to sell the crypto. I could then ACH it to my bank account which takes about 5 days. Instead I added another step.
You can link your Coinbase account to your Paypal account. So, when I have cashed out at the cheapest rate at Coinbase Pro, I instant transfer the money to Coinbase and then instant transfer it to paypal. There are no fees for this and there are no fees for Coinbase Pro. Coinbase Pro allows you to do things CashApp or regular Coinbase does not. For example, I held my Bitcoin Cash which came in at 219 and put an order to sell at 230. When Bitcoin Cash hit 230, it sold and I made a couple extra percent return on my money. It was a risk, but wanted to play with a limit order. When the money got to my Paypal account, I instant transferred it to my debit card for 1% fee. I could have ACHed it for free and had the money in a day or two, but I decided to take the quick cash.
Overall, the quickest I have seen cryptocurrency with withdrawals is under 24 hours with Pai Wang Luo Network (Bovada/Ignition) and 3 days for WPN. Once I have received my crypto, the quickest I have been able to hit my account is 1.5 hours.
Now here is the big risk from Cryptocurrency: Currency fluctuation. I have no idea why crypto goes down or up, or why some cryptos go one way while others will go another. General rule, if Bitcoin is up or down, the others are as well. Example: Past 24 Hours (7/5/2020 - 7/6/2020), Bitcoin up 3.1%, Ether 6%, Bitcoin Cash 8.36% Tether -.1%, Dai .68%. Dai and Tether were created to avoid currency fluctuations by tieing themselves to an asset. Tether is "tethered" to the USD. So try one of the those for less risk maybe. But please note, while you have crypto in your wallet and exchange, and it goes up or down, that's your money going up or down.
I hope this helps anyone trying to figure out how to use cryptocurrencies. GL

Where can we play poker with FUN?!

I have . . .had high hopes for FunFair but there is no site/app/etc at all where one can play table games, poker, sports betting? Does FunFair have any plans to make a site or app where people can indulge in their favorite pastimes? I mean WIN (WinK) has this . . .You can do all of this already online with great sites like Bovada, any plans to get FUN on Bovada, Fanduel, DraftKings or make a competing site? No one is interested in lame ass games like slots, crypto kritties or some Pokemon RPG knock off, what is the point of FUN? Bovada takes crypto, only a matter of time before FanDuel and DraftKings start accepting top tier cryptos, I don't see the future of FUN unless FunFair makes an app/site where one can just download/visit site, upload FUN, have fun, offload FUN, please make this happen, someone, or FUN will become not so fun in due (short) time. If you can't create a user experience that people want to interact with, get FUN on these existing platforms with more users than all FUN games X100,000,000 combined before they simply add top tier cryptos and people will say what the hell is FUN, for carnival games maybe?

Hand Grabber for Bovada that's compatible with mac

Hello all. I am pretty annoyed right now. Trying to use a hud fro the first time, and downloaded pokertracker4 because it's new hand grabber app is supposed to be compatible with bovada. I'm running everything on mac and to my dismay the app is PC only. I found that out after I paid for poker tracker. I know they offer a trial but I needed reg code to get the app. Anyway, is there any third party software out there out there I can use that can communicate between poker tracker and bovada? Thanks!

DC Sports Betting App

So DC sports betting is finally here and the app is up and running. As a long time gambling connoisseur I figured I'd rather give my money to DC over the Caymans or Latvia or wherever my other sites are based. I downloaded the app and as I'm comparing lines against other sites like bovada, mybookie, etc., I see the odds are extremely bad.
Just wondering if anyone has used it and if there are any benefits at all to using gambetdc compared to other sites?
Seems to me that this was years of fighting to legalize it, just to release an app that no one with even the slightest knowledge of sports betting would ever use.
Thanks.

[OC] With the Oscar nominations around the corner, it's time we come up with some comparisons to NBA Contenders

The Academy Awards nominations will be announced early on Monday morning, with a slew of contenders still in the mix. This year, the race feels more wide open than usual.
Similarly, the NBA title landscape feels more wide open than usual as well in a post KD-Warriors era. Of course, some teams have better chances than others. Let's take a look at some of the top contenders, linked together with their Oscar-hopeful counterparts.
New York Knicks as... CATS
Cats is one of the most successful and beloved Broadway musicals of all time. The New York Knicks are one of the most storied and successful NBA franchises of all time. And if you were born after 1980, you wouldn't know that at all.
Yet despite that, Cats and the Knicks took a bold gambit to compete this year, with spectacularly unsuccessful results. The Cats film adaptation cost a reported $90 million (and probably more), and got back CGI that looks more fitting of a Neal Breen B-picture. Meanwhile, the Knicks splurged on more than $60 million in salary on power forwards alone, with only Marcus Morris living up to the contract so far.
Sacramento Kings as... THE GOLDFINCH
What the hell is The Goldfinch, you ask? We can't blame you for that ignorance. The movie came and went in a flash, despite a very impressive pedigree and high expectations. The 2013 Donna Tartt novel that it's based on won the Pulitzer Prize, leading to a studio bidding war and a high-profile adaptation starring Nicole Kidman. Unfortunately, the film was a clunker, scoring just 24% approval on rottentomatoes.
Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings came into this season with high expectations for the first time in a while, fresh on the heels of a solid 39-43 season. Unfortunately, this season has been another clunker, causing the team to stumble back to a 15-24 start. There's still young talent here and a potential bright future, but the team may be rethinking its choice of director.
San Antonio Spurs as... A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
There was a time when a Tom Hanks Oscar vehicle would be a frontrunner for the Academy Awards. A few decades later, Hanks continues to chug along and make solid content, but the idea of his movies winning it all again may be behind him. The formula (the likable Hanks as a real life hero like Walt Disney or Sully Sullenbeger or Mr. Rogers) is enough to keep them afloat but not enough to grab the trophy in a world with evolving taste.
Clearly, the venerable San Antonio Spurs are having their same issues. Once a dominant power, they're sifting into "pretty good" status just like A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. For them, making the playoffs, extending their streak, and staying relevant is the real goal.
Portland Trail Blazers as... FORD V FERRARI
Most movies stall out in the development stage, and only get the greenlight once they land a big name star to slap on the marquee. If you can get one? Great. If you can get two? You're gold! Given that, Matt Damon and Christian Bale paired together in a prestige picture sounds like a home run. Unfortunately for the movie, it feels like theirs may be running behind in a crowded field (currently given +5000 odds to win.)
Meanwhile, Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum may be feeling the same way. It's not often you get high-scoring guard on one team -- let alone two. Yet, despite that, the injuries and holes on the rest of the roster have caused the Blazers to slip behind in the crowded race out West. It'll take a comeback for them to even make the field this year.
Oklahoma City Thunder as... RICHARD JEWELL
Director Clint Eastwood recreated the true-life story of security guard Richard Jewell, who was falsely accused for a bombing (the one in Atlanta, not Oklahoma City.) More than anything, the movie's an indictment of the FBI and the media for jumping to conclusions and locking into a narrative before the facts played out.
Sam Presti, Billy Donovan, and the Oklahoma City Thunder may be feeling the same way. After the Russell Westbrook and Paul George trades, OKC was supposed to be terrible. They were supposed to be heading into a deep, dark rebuild that would take 3-4 years at least. As it turns out, that may have been jumping to conclusions. Between Chris Paul and company, there's still a lot of quality veteran talent on this team. Currently at 22-16, they may be a dangerous team in R1 presuming they don't... wait for it... blow it up.
Dallas Mavericks as... THE TWO POPES
Reminiscent of Netflix's show The Crown, feature The Two Popes tells an intimate and personal story about global icons. Here, we see two pontiffs ruminate about their lives and their views on the church. Ultimately, the aging and old-school German Pope Benedict passes the baton to the more modern and progressive Pope Francis.
Meanwhile, in Dallas, we've seen a similar passing of the torch. German icon Dirk Nowitzki ruled the Mavericks for over a decade, but has ultimately handed the reins over to Luka Doncic. Like Pope Francis, Doncic has immediately brought new life to the team and captured the hearts of millions across the globe. Although to be fair, the affable and humble Nowitzki stands in contrast to the curmudgeonly Benedict (as played by Anthony Hopkins.)
Indiana Pacers as... BOMBSHELL
Hm. Uh. Okay, let's be honest, I got nothing here. Still, this gives you a chance to visual T.J. McConnell being asked to dress "sexier" for television. Heck, maybe this is how the Fox News mandate all started -- Roger Ailes developed his fetish for tall blondes after a crush on Rik Smits.
Toronto Raptors as... MARRIAGE STORY
Writedirector Noah Baumbach's intimate and personal Marriage Story is less about a marriage, and more about a divorce. Adam Driver's Charlie agonizes as his spouse leaves him behind to start a new life in Los Angeles. Their separation is agonizing and uncomfortable, but ultimately may lead to some peace of mind for them both.
Similarly, the Toronto Raptors have been dealing with the wake of Kawhi Leonard's own departure to sunny L.A. And to their credit, they've handled it with little stress or wall punching at all, staying relevant in the Eastern Conference playoff chase. Realistically, Toronto and Marriage Story aren't likely contenders to win the overall trophy, but simply making it into the field is a proud achievement for them nonetheless.
Philadelphia 76ers as... JOJO RABBIT
A satiric comedy about a young boy named Jojo and his ol' buddy Adolf Hitler? Why, that sounds like an insane idea and a potential tonal disaster. Yet, somehow, it all works, thanks to the quirky genius of director Taika Waititi, a product of New Zealand.
In Philadelphia, genius Sam Hinkie had his own insane idea: losing and losing and losing some more. There may have been some growing pains here and there, but overall it's been a success as the Sixers are among the best in the league (albeit not likely to actually win it all.) If they're going to crack through, they'll need their young center Jojo Embiid and their own Oceaniac talent Ben Simmons to find the right balance and tone themselves.
Boston Celtics as... LITTLE WOMEN
At first blush, you may think a comparison to "Little Women" would be an insult, but maybe it's time for you to check your TOXIC MASCULINITY!! at the door. After all, these particular Little Women do a fine job in Greta Gerwig's movie (highlighted by young stars Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh) portraying plucky siblings who come together and soldier on as a family when their dad heads off to war.
In Boston, there was some uncertainty about what would happen when wannabe-daddy Kyrie Irving checked out. But rather than fold, the family has rallied together, highlighted by their own young stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. In fact, this year's version of the Boston Celtics rank higher in virtually every category (W-L, SRS, offensive rating, defensive rating) than last season's team. Can they actually win the title? That's unlikely. But their future remains as bright as the likes of Gerwig/Ronan/Pugh.
Miami Heat as... KNIVES OUT
Well-regarded director Rian Johnson scored the biggest break of his career when he got tapped to direct Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And seemingly just as quickly, he became scrutinized and vilified on the internet after the movie came out (unjustifiably, in my humble opinion.) In response, Johnson took a step back and wrote/directed Knives Out, a witty and razor-sharp murder mystery featuring a strong ensemble cast. In fact, some suggest the movie is a subtle jab at his critics.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler is on a revenge tour of his own. Well-regarded a few years ago, his reputation took a massive hit in Minnesota and then Philadelphia, where he couldn't push potential super-teams over the hump. Instead, he took off for Miami, intent on doing things his own way. And there, he's re-established himself as a top player, thanks in no small part to a strong ensemble cast. This Miami Heat team is deep and well-balanced, and a potential spoiler out East.
Houston Rockets as... UNCUT GEMS
While immensely popular and successful, Adam Sandler has often been a punching bag for critics. This year may change that, as he's finally getting universal praise for his performance as a spiraling jeweler in Uncut Gems. Sandler has a heavy workload in the movie, anchoring almost every scene. One of the elements that helps him in the movie is the frantic pace and energy; there's rarely a dull moment between appearances by Kevin Garnett, the Weeknd, hot girls pleasuring themselves, hot seder dinner action, etc.
Similarly, this season may be when James Harden shakes off the last remaining critics and haters. He's shouldering a huge workload and carrying the team, and is doing a spectacular job at that. And similar to Uncut Gems, one of the reasons that Harden has been so successful this year is the frantic pace. After ditching Chris Paul, the Rockets have vaulted from 26th last season to 2nd in terms of their pace of play. That style has made Harden even more efficient than ever.
Utah Jazz as... 1917
Director Sam Mendes' gripping drama takes you inside the brutality of World War I. Unlike the blitzkriegs of WWII, the "Great War" was best known for their brutal trench warfare, where young soldiers desperately tried and failed to gain mere feet of room.
The Utah Jazz's opponents may have some flashbacks here, as they've tried and failed to get inside the paint as long as "Stifle Tower" Rudy Gobert has been there on patrol. This season marks Utah's fifth year in a row that they've ranked in the top 10 of defensive efficiency. Of course, to actually win the title, the team can't rely on their defensive systems alone. The troops need to rally together to save Mike Conley's career and find some more offensive firepower.
Denver Nuggets as... JOKER
Disregarded and ridiculed by society, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) ultimately finds his voice and new identity as the "Joker." With it, he unwittingly inspires a movement that attacks the traditional powers-that-be.
Beefy Nikola Jokic, also known as "The Joker", had been disregarded and ridiculed by the NBA draft community that let him stumble to the second round. Despite that, Jokic found his identity as an unconventional point center, helping the Nuggets become of the best teams in the league. While old-school pundits may still mock his game and his frame, it's looking like an increasingly dangerous group in Denver. And if Michael Porter Jr. can fully return from his back issues as well as Batman post Bane, then we could be talking about quite a superpower.
L.A. Lakers as... THE IRISHMAN
Director Martin Scorsese certainly knows about mob movies, but that doesn't mean they're always easy to put together. It took over a decade for the stars to align for The Irishman, the long-awaited reunion between Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino. It may be a near-ancient cast, but it's one that brings the goods in telling the behind-the-scenes story of Jimmy Hoffa.
In terms of the typical NBA landscape, 35-year-old LeBron James may as well be ancient himself. Despite that, he's looked decades younger this season (a la Robert DeNiro.) For DeNiro, the magic fountain of youth came in the form of CGI. For LeBron, it may be another three-letter abbreviation. But however it happened, it's worked like a charm; the "King" is back to dominating and chasing more titles. And while it may have taken a while to put his latest contender together, he finally landed his desired co-star in Anthony Davis. Of course, for the Lakers to win it all, they'll need more contributions from the supporting cast. Joe Pesci is a stellar third banana in The Irishman, while Kyle Kuzma has left something to be desired so far.
Milwaukee Bucks as... PARASITE
South Korean director Bong Joon-ho's Parasite is being hailed as one of the best movies of the year, and is rising the charts as a legitimate contender to win Best Picture. In fact, Bovada lists it as + 250, the second best odds in the entire field. Of course, to actually win the award, the movie would be going against some history. While foreign-language films have been nominated for Best Picture in the past (most recently with Roma last year), none of them have actually won the trophy.
In some ways, we can say the same about foreign-born Giannis Antetokounmpo's pursuit of greatness. Yes, international players have been among the best in the NBA before. Dirk Nowitzki won an MVP trophy and a championship ring, after all. However, that didn't come in the same season. While Nowitzki was universally considered one of the best players of his day, it never felt like he was universally considered THE single best player in the league over the likes of Kobe Bryant or LeBron. But if Giannis can win MVP (again) and lead these Bucks to a title (in the same year), there would be no question about it; the best player in the NBA is not an American. And as with Parasite, there's a good chance of that happening. Bovada lists the Bucks' odds as + 350, the third best in the field and a near match for the movie.
L.A. Clippers as... ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD
You can argue that Leonardo DiCaprio is at the peak of his powers right now, and the top actor in all of town. Not one to rest on his laurels, he teamed up with another superstar in Brad Pitt and worked for a Hall of Fame director in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. In the picture, DiCaprio's Rick Dalton attempts to adjust to a changing world around him.
Similarly, you can argue that Kawhi Leonard is at the top of his game and at the top of the NBA totem pole after winning the title in Toronto. Not one to rest of his laurels, he teamed up with another superstar in Paul George and their own Hall of Fame coach in Doc Rivers. If there's any problems with this title-caliber roster, it may be a matter of whether Leonard and George can adjust to a new team in time, particularly one that established a nice chemistry without them last year.
Still, between those two stars and a spicy supporting cast (with Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell proving a spark as our Margot Robbie and Margaret Qualley here), they're going to be a tough group to beat. Like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, people expect them to come back after a slower-than-expected start and turn on the heat in the final act.

New to sports betting in Michigan

I've done draftkings and FanDuel DFS before, but looking to start betting on games and futures. Right now DK and FD don't seem to offer that, even though it's legal now in Michigan. Or is there another way to access it? Or is it better to use bovada or betonline? I saw there was bovada.lv and bovada.com. are they both the same? Or do they have an app?

2020 Australian Open 3rd Round Men's & Women's Singles

Round 3 is here and the matchups are getting juicy, with not only the 4th round on the line but many people’s status on tour in metaphysical jeopardy. The frequency of 5-setters is awesome for the spectator but also exhausting, as switching around ESPN+ is too tempting. I prefer jokerstream, as the sheer number of popups you have to deal with if you try to change the volume or switch to another stream is so daunting that you likely just sit absolutely still once you get one open. I know ESPN and is trying and they are a fledgling streaming service, but the lack of Bovada popups and push-ads about messages in my inbox from online dating services kinda makes me think they don’t care. Whatever, let’s play tennis.
Nadal vs Carreno Busta : To the guy who suggested I put v. in between the names, I’m fairly certain you could have pieced it together, but also your suggestion will make the formatting better, so I’ll give home ec a shot. Nadal is having his usual boring walk through the draw, and played well at the ATP Cup so there’s no reason to think he’s in anything but his best form. Carreno Busta prior to his injury was starting to look like he’d overtake Diego Schwartzman’s role of constantly playing Nadal and pressing him despite having not much chances to win, and his resurgence has been nice to see, but he’s not up to this speed yet. There should be some great rallies in this one and I expect more breaks of serve than usual, but Nadal should win this in 3-4.
Kyrgios vs Khachanov : Kyrgios is 2/2 on trying, and that’s good to see. Khachanov’s line kept shifting towards Ymer and while I like Ymer’s progress, I didn’t expect that he’d be able to compete at that level yet. A 10-8 tiebreaker proves that he can, and Khachanov clutched it but I’m inclined to think that makes him the underdog here. Last round doesn’t predict this one though, and this is another big test for Nick’s resolve. Khachanov takes 0 points off, serves very well, and hits harder than Kyrgios. Kyrgios has the bigger serve, and the concept that his peak tennis beats anyone on tour is generally true, so this one if a will he/won’t he matchup. When I looked at the odds for this round, all I really saw were a bunch of underdogs up against people who I did not think could properly dismiss their challenger, and this is the first of those. If Kyrgios can notch a win here against Khach, he may have his first real shot to beat one of the big 3 in a major. If he lapses as he did against Simon, he may have a difficult 5-setter on his hands. Khachanov in 5, or a new challenger on tour.
Monfils vs Gulbis : Monfils overcame an early break to Ivo and wrapped up a match that he looked like he was in a rush to finish. I think that’s a moderately good strategy for playing Ivo, as he’s going to make errors in the rally whether you hit a good or bad shot. The pressure he applies by holding serve so effortlessly leads a lot of people to become pushers when they’re in a rally since they “have to win every rally since they have an edge” but really Ivo is the one who “has to win a rally at some point or he cannot win” so it was interesting to see the roles reversed. Gulbis backed up his win over FAA nicely and played quality tennis against Bedene. Up next in Gulbis’ wonderdraw of guys he can actually beat is Monfils, who could beat anyone but never will. This is another match where I am going to eat it no matter what I predict, because Monfils has not had a real test yet, and his mental state is as important as Kyrgios to predict what will happen in his matches. This could actually be one of Gulbis’ last great wins on tour, as FAA is still a cut below Monfils. Of course, we’ve never seen anyone beat a healthy Monfils, so what I expect here is either a 5 set thriller, or a 5 set thriller filled with injury timeouts. Someone in 5.
Fritz vs Thiem : It is extremely odd to see Anderson open as a tiny favorite with Fritz, and odder still to see this line move to Fritz actually favored. Even odder is the way the match played out, with Fritz needing to play perfect tennis to eke out the win. A stumble against Bolt for Thiem certainly made backers who took the -1200 cringe, but he somehow righted the ship and rolled to victory. It’d be nice to see Bolt travel more this year, as he could get his ranking high enough to avoid wild cards in the future if he played the American swing, and with his speed and power may be effective on clay as well. Fritz struggled with injury for a while but his serve is effortless and his forehand can “dictate well” and oh my god I sound like a tennis channel announcer. Dictating with the forehand is not a key to victory, it is literally what tennis is. Anytime you are able to hit the ball, you decide where to hit it. If you are on offense, no shit you are dictating where the ball is being hit. It is about as good as “win all the rallies” for a strategic nugget. Fuck Tennis Channel’s parade of soft-spoken idiots. But it’s not about them, is it? (it is) It’s about Thiem in my mind not really having a difficult match here given his edge in the rallies, but needing to return serve somehow to get there. Thiem has gone from being one of the worst hardcourt returners on tour, often blocking the ball several feet long for entire seasons, to being somewhat serviceable with the same swing. It’s cool to see a player committed to learning a new skill and he certainly fought the good fight. I can see this match going the distance as Fritz tends to get in a good rhythm with his serving for a few games and his height lends itself to him hitting winners that are largely unreturnable when he’s able to get forward in the court on a return, and while I’m terrified of Fritz winning, I don’t think he has 5 sets of world class tennis in him, and that is generally what it takes these days to eliminate Thiem. Thiem is a darkhorse to win this event, and a hiccough against Bolt is no shame as he’s an unknown commodity with a high motor. Thiem in 4-5.
Medvedev vs Popyrin : Medvedev continues to roll, but not to much surprise. Martinez acquitted himself nicely, but the writing was on the wall. If you watched Popyrin and Munar, you saw Munar make get after get and never get rewarded. Popyrin’s offense is better than your defense, and it bodes very well for his career that the serve is as good as the forehand. Medvedev is one of the best returners on tour, and covers the court as well as any tall person has in a very long time. I actually think that Popyrin can score on his opponent regardless of how consistent they play, but against Munar Popyrin got a lot of free swings and didn’t have to contend with much offense (Munar has started hitting his spots on his serve and is going after it more than he did, but his transition from clay will take a few years before he’s really a threat on hardcourt so for now he’s likely the best challenger level pusher out there and will get the reps and opportunities because of his claycourt prowess). This isn’t about Munar though, who looked like a boarding school kid on a class trip with his top button buttoned up. Tiny people are adorable, there I said it. This is about Munar. He’s tiny, he tries hard, it’s great. Medvedev in 4.
Isner vs Wawrinka : All of Isner’s matches are dangerous but he actually broke serve in the last one which is always a sign that he’s playing well. Wawrinka snuck past Seppi who is the king of 5-setters he’s “not supposed to be in” and after struggling with Dzumhur and Seppi my friends Wawrinka future at 50:1 is starting to look like it’s not worth the stress of watching his matches. This won’t won’t be easy either, as Isner with momentum in an event becomes very hard to beat as fatigue sets in in the later rounds. The 2/3 format allows him to redline his serve and muscle his way through matches, but the 3/5 allows him to get multiple chances to apply pressure against players who are simply put, much better at tennis than him. In a round of extremely dangerous underdogs this one is one of the most “oooooh you almost had it” opponents to potentially lose to. Isner won their last meeting 2 years ago, and I expect him to win this one also. Another 5 setter most likely, as Wawrinka can produce on average 5 games of excellent tennis followed by one game of hitting the net with his forehand when the line is wide open. Isner in 5 but I’d love to see Medvedev Wawrinka so I hope not.
Goffin vs Rublev : It’s a shame these two have to play but it’s going to be juicy. After some early signs of fatigue against Sugita everyone’s favorite angry broccoli solved the puzzle and looked scary good. He just rips the ball from wherever he is and given his proclivity to just hit it to the open court, when he goes behind his opponent it’s almost always good for a point. The pace and lack of errors are what are remarkable, and although this is clearly the game he was always attempting to play, I didn’t see it coming to fruition as I thought his errors and mobility would always be an issue. Goffin struggled with Herbert as they traded extremely lopsided sets of tennis, but got the victory. I think this will be the classic Goffin matchup where he is outclassed in ballstriking and gradually allows his serve to break down, but fatigue may begin to be a factor for Rublev. It’s a good match to see if that is going to be true or not. If anyone is going to break down his legs, it’s Goffin. If Rublev wins in 3 or 4 sets, we have a real contender for this title on our hands. Rublev in 4 or Goffin in 5. I’m not going to provide a list of things Rublev looks like, but I strongly recommend you watch this one through your snapchat app and use the viking helmet filter anytime they show Goffin or Rublev’s face. Don’t use any of the cute filters on Goffin though or he will turn into a Disney cartoon character and your phone will explode.
Verdasco Zverev : Verdasco edged Basilashvili who couldn’t keep the ball on the court long enough for fatigue to be a factor, and early on it did not look good. Verdasco has his knees taped up, but is playing some of his best tennis, hitting the ball extremely well off the forehand wing, which he always has, but rarely does. Zverev never seemed to do anything, but beat Gerasimov. The knock on Zverev is that he plays too passively, and makes too many errors for that gamestyle. The other knock is that he double faults a lot. The other knock is that he gets upset and gives up on court. The other knock is that he lets his personal life affect his tennis and commitment to training. The other knock is that he overplays his backhand. The other knock is that his forehand is a bit too whippy and can decelerate at times and leave him looking like Benoit Paire’s lovechild. So of course he’s the favorite against Verdasco, but should he be? This is a situation where one player has been excellent for two weeks, and the other is a name everyone recognizes. I think this, like many of the other third round men’s matchups (I will eat these words probably), is a nightmare matchup for Zverev, who allows his opponents to play enough that Verdasco (who looks to hit big and end points) will have his chances here. The issue for Verdasco will be that constantly looking to pull the trigger leads to errors, and the one thing you don’t want to give to the guy who’s game plan is “hit the court and wait for the lesser player to miss” are errors. If Verdasco’s forehand and knees can hold up I don’t see a reason why he can’t win at least one set, and given Zverev’s mental weakness (whining at the box to me is mental weakness, and if the argument is “everyone does it” well, yeah, that’s what makes it so cringeworthy), he could win more than that. Verdasco in 4. I skipped the vs in this one just to see if that guy would notice. I’m pretty sure he won’t. Will you, jinabhi?
Sandgren vs Querrey : The worst thing about predicting Sandgren would give Berrettini trouble is having to watch it actually happen. This guy really ups his game at majors and in a sport of hundreds of guys constantly training and fighting to get to the top, it says something about his game ceiling that he’s able to employ the same strategy as some of the top players on tour in terms of effort level at different events. This is a guy who lost a barnburner to Michael Redlick a few weeks ago on the challenger tour, and while he’s a knob, he hits the ball extremely hard and believes in his game. He was actually trying to outlast Berrettini in rallies and admonished himself several times for trying to hit thin margins. Most players look to capitalize against a guy with such a dominant forehand and serve, but not Sandgren. Up next is Querrey, who got past Berankis without too much trouble, but didn’t really display anything that would make the outcome of this one not in question. Underdog day continues in my mind, and while I’d love a nice Sam Querrey run at a major, he’ll have to outwork Sandgren to win this one, and I’m not sure it’ll happen. Fatigue could be an issue after a very arduous 2nd round, but I think Sandgren is the player in better form. Sandgren in 5.
Pella vs Fognini : If I had Pella left in the reddit survivor pool, I’d be listing him here and going down with the ship. Fognini has struggled in each round and come up with the goods at the end, and now is playing a guy who doesn’t let you do so. Pella didn’t take the foot off the gas for a moment in his opener nor in his last round with Barrere, and he will be the way fresher player at this point in the event. Fognini’s skill and speed are hard to ignore, and he had a great 2019 and seems rededicated to tennis, but Pella is the type of opponent that gives him fits. Pella is stepping into the court a great deal and getting to net quickly when he has the initiative, and I do believe taking away Fognini’s time is the most frustrating thing to a guy who usually is opting to hit the prettiest shot he can. Pella in 3-4.
Fucsovics vs Paul : Folk hero Marton Fucsovics is making fools of all the doubters this event, finally getting over the hump in spectacular fashion. A victim of many final set losses in the past, he’s not even allowed a match to get there thus far, and given the caliber of player he’s beaten so far, he should be favored against Tommy Paul. Dimitrov did what he does best, and lost. Paul has to be riding a great deal of confidence into this match after his solid week. Neither Shap nor Sinner were able to hit through Fucs defense, and the wind has been playing a factor which lends itself to the more adaptable athlete winning. Fucsovics in 4.
Federer vs Milman : Federer in 3. These are the same guys he plays every tournament.
Tsitsipas vs Raonic : Here is a popcorn match. Tsitsipas should win this. He has more game, better mobility, and the only way Raonic should be able to come through here is if Tsitspas struggles on serve. A big key to Tsitsipas’ victories has been the ability to hit first serves, as his outwide serve sets him up nicely to hit into the open court and get to net. These cheap points are paramount if you want to win, and the crystal stargazer sunchild who loves everyone certainly does. I think the odds are cheap in this one at -265, but Raonic can bounce the ball past any opponent on serve so it makes sense. I just don’t see him winning 3/5 sets unless Tsitsipas reverts to making errors and not being able to serve. Tsitsipas in 5.
Cilic vs Bautista-Agut : Cilic got a nice moral victory over Benoit Paire who did everything he could but looked like he lost his legs late in the match. The wind wreaked havoc on Paire’s game and although he hung tough he was reduced largely to slicing the ball on the forehand side and he hit a number of simple backhands long in the end. RBA will be doing none of that, and Cilic likely will get a wakeup call here. Will he notice it? With a big serve and a cannon of a forehand, I often think Cilic is not really aware of where he stands in a match. These guys are all pro’s but Cilic competes and fistpumps like every match is the Wimbledon final. I’m sure that’s nice for a young player to learn to commit on every swing and make their best effort, but this is a guy who at this point should be sure of himself, and know what to do to win. I’d like to see a quiet journeyman composed effort from Cilic, but I likely won’t. RBA has been too good, and I think he will have some scar-tissue from when Cilic was a top player which will allow Cilic to grab a set, but RBA should advance. RBA in 4, and Cilic to possibly start wearing a backwards hat going forward to be more confident.
Lil guy finals : Dropping sets? We don’t do that. Diego and Dusan have rolled through this draw because naturally, shorter players have major advantages on super fast hardcourts. Diego is favored in this one at -230 and I think that’s an error given how well Lajovic has been playing in January. So is the answer that Diego’s level is higher than Dusan’s, or is the line set this way because the general public did not watch the second tier singles matchups at the ATP Cup, and is still expected to flood their money in on Diego. I’ve seen some careless errors from Diego on the backhand wing, and although he was able to get away with them, Dusan’s confidence level right now and the tenacity that he’s been going after his winners is enough that I think he has the edge here. It should be a long grind either way, but Lajovic in 4-5.
Nishioka vs Djokovic : I’m not crowning Djokovic king of the third round yet. I think this will be a test for him as Nishioka is built to frustrate a player like Novak. His speed and commitment to playing would make him the perfect hitting partner were he not so freaking good that he actually belongs on tour. I expected Evans to have an edge in their matchup but watching I saw that he simply could not hit through Nishioka. There is a dynamic to tennis where one player appears visibly trapped when their opponent is keeping them in rallies and not going for much, and it causes unforced errors when they become aware of it. A good example is when RBA begins hitting his backhand into his opponents backhand. These are routine shots and his opponent could just keep hitting back into RBA’s backhand, but the more times RBA does it the more his opponent starts to feel trapped, often trying to hit a slice or drive down the line to change the dynamic. Novak still should win this one, as he’s the best player in the world, but the backhand to backhand war that he generally feasts on won’t be there as nishi is a lefty, and given Nishioka’s proclivity to hit his backhand low-crosscourt, Novak will have to win this one on the forehand wing which can often be a grind for him as he relies on shape rather than pace for this shot. I’m not predicting the upset of the century, but I am saying 10.5 games is too many. Novak in 3-4 1 break sets.
Barty vs Rybakina : Barty’s first real test comes in the form of Rybakina. She hits big, she moves well, she serves well. We all known Ash Barty used to play rugby (ty tennis channel for bringing it up every time she appears on tv), but did you know that Ash is short for Ashleigh? Commonly thought to be a misspelling, it’s actually an homage to her conception in a sleigh. That’s right, her dad? Santa. Anyway, it would be a shame for her to come this far and lose to Rybakina, but this is the best draw for Barty as she is facing opponents whose offense is daunting but whose movement does not match up to Barty. I think this one will go three but with a little Christmas magic Barty should come through and if she’s able to close this down in two I expect at least a semifinals run from her. Barty in 3.
Riske vs Goerges : I see this listed as a pickem which means Riske must be playing great ball. Goerges beat Petra Martic though, which if I’m looking at the draw without watching the matches is a significantly better win. It’ll be hard for this not to go three, and although these two are somewhat known as servers I expect a lot of momentum swings as both will like their chances at getting to play Barty in front of the entire world in the 4th round. Someone in 3 emotionally draining sets.
Keys vs Sakkari : Keys held off Rus’ early challenge and cruised in the second. Once she gets in a good rhythm hitting the ball it’s extremely difficult to stop her, and her serve has improved a bit in pressure moments. Sakkari (whose shoulders and arms are my new fitness goal) ended qualifier Nao Hibino’s nice run. Given her drop in the rankings the past two seasons due to a lot of 3rd set losses, it’ll be a nice bump for Hibino and hopefully she gets settled back on tour in 2020. Keys Sakkari is an interesting matchup because although Sakkari doesn’t have the consistency and results yet to compete for a major, she has the athletic ability to apply pressure. Similar to Andreescu, there are some players who seem like pure athletes. Sakkari is likely the player for my money who generally won’t win every match, but will always be able to appear on the same level of tennis during rallies no matter the opponent. Keys will have the match on her raquet, but this pressure is Sakkari’s best shot. Keys in 2-3.
Big lady finals! Talllllllllll. Kvitova is the only player on tour who gets a full swing and hits the ball by her opponent without them even swinging. She crushes the backhand, she rips the forehand, and then she does this kinda bird shriek that always instantly convinces me she’s going to win the tournament. Like any elegant giant, movement is her only real issue. It was a straight set victory, but Badosa was able to return a number of serves, and that should give Alexandrova a shot, since her strength is her ability to hit big in rallies. A slightly less capable server than Kvitova, Alexandrova is actually 5’9” so maybe this is not the big lady finals, but if guys on Tinder can turn 5’9” into 6’, something something big lady finals! Alexandrova plays for me like a slightly smaller version of Kvitova, and her title run this past week in Shenzen was very impressive. I expect tiebreakers here and I would not be surprised at an upset given Alexandrova’s edge in mobility and defense. Alexandrova in 3.
Osaka vs Gauff : Gauff hung in there despite some mental struggles and got the win against Cirstea, who has definitely improved and will have a good season. Gauff hits her second serve harder than many tour players hit their first, and her ability to adjust her swing to make sure the ball goes in the court continues to be one of the most promising things about her game. A reality check may be on the way, but I don’t think Gauff is overconfident the way other junior phenoms often are, and this match should be good for Gauff’s experience. Osaka is playing better this year than she has in past years, which isn’t always the case with developing tennis champions. Her backhand is crushing winners despite the windy conditions, and I think this is where her edge in this match comes in. Gauff has been able to outlast a few opponents in her budding career due to her mobility, and Osaka takes that away by hitting bigger than most on tour. Osaka in 2.
Zhang vs Kenin : Super long rallies on the way in this one. Zhang has been playing lockdown tennis and Kenin is firmly in that second tier of players who seem to always threaten the top ones (Barty/Osaka/Williams/Andreescu). This would be Zhang’s best win by far in her recent run, and although Collins was able to upend Kenin, I don’t think Zhang has the weapons. Kenin in 2-3.
Jabeur vs Wozniacki : The comeback win from Ons against Garcia was impressive given how much the windy conditions impacted her but not as much as the win by Wozniacki over Yastremska. Woz was in peak form and moved the ball well and made get after get after frustrating get. Winning 7-5 7-5 always seems like a strange result to me, but it also makes me think that she will have too much defense for Jabeur. Wozniacki in 2.
Wang vs Williams : These two always play and I always convince myself that Wang has a chance. She doesn’t. Williams has been in excellent form this week and it will continue here. Williams in 2.
Bencic vs Kontaveit : This is a good matchup that could go either way and would do wonders for the individual players confidence this season. Two gatekeepers of the tour, these two rarely lose to a worse player, and I expect this match to go three sets, with no real way of calling it. Kontaveit did finish strong against Tormo, but she dropped a set before doing so, so whether it was a mental lapse or there is more in the tank remains to be seen. She’ll need it against Bencic, who I think goes down in a tight third set. Kontaveit in 3.
Vekic vs Swiatek : Swiatek is quickly putting her injury concerns behind her, with quick victories over Babos and Suarez Navarro who gives very little away. Up next is an interesting tie with Donna Vekic, who cruised past Alize Cornet. Swiatek has the higher ceiling on tour, but Vekic is always a threat. Swiatek in 2-3.
Mertens vs Bellis : Mertens kept up the pressure and Watson made errors, and a similar story unfolded in Bellis’ match with Muchova. Bellis employed excellent court coverage, and seems to generate extra time on defense with her backhand which allows her to hit very effective passes. The depth of shot was there as was the confidence, and it’s good to see her back in form on tour. This is a very tough test though for a player without power, as Mertens doesn’t usually make errors unless pressured and plays aggressively off both wings with control. I was hoping Bellis would play someone else so I could back her, but I think Mertens wins here. Mertens in 2-3.
Putintseva vs Halep : Ok then. When the odds opened for Collins Putintseva I didn’t understand them, but now they make sense. She completely reversed the tide from their previous matchup and her reward is an in-form Halep who isn’t unbeatable here. Putintseva, whose name I always thought was Yelena, is named Yulia. A player with a nice bundle of temper and a swing for the fences attitude, this should be a good match with lots of momentum swings as Halep is the better player but with slightly less power. Neither really serves many aces, and someone will have to come up with the goods in the third set to claim victory here. Putintseva in 3.
Svitolina vs Muguruza : Muguruza! A nice start to the year and a difficult opponent. Muguruza struggles with errors and Svitolina rarely makes them. This I don’t suspect is Svitolina’s best quality tennis that I’ve seen but I think she is the perfect opponent to beat Garbiñe. Svitolina in 2-3.
Diyas vs Bertens : Great comeback win by Diyas I believe she was down a set and a break point when I stopped watching. I got to watch more of Rodionova against Bertens and she has a very effective game. Bertens played some very reliable tennis to get through, and looks slimmer for this event. There are minor fluctuations with top tennis players weights but when their faces change features a bit this is generally very hard training, or very good steroids. I like Bertens so I’ll say training. Diyas is a defensive test, but her serve is lacking, and this should let Bertens into the match. She has more power and a bit more variety/experience, and this should be the edge, although I don’t expect it to be larger given Diyas’ court coverage. Bertens in 2 tight sets.
Giorgi vs Kerber : What’s scary about Giorgi is that I expect her to make errors and when she doesn’t she can beat most of the tour. It’s probably not scary for Kerber though, who has beaten Giorgi the last 4 times they’ve played. There’s not much reason to think she will lose this one either, but the -165 +145 line seems to indicate that Giorgi will be competitive. There is a three setter in their past, but Giorgi was zipped in the final set. I think this will be more of ze same. Kerber in 3.
Pavlyuchenkova vs Pliskova : This is another match where I think Pliskova is the obvious choice, but am sure I am wrong. Pavs can lose to anyone, and goes three sets more than Bertens as a heavy favorite. She forgot to do so against Taylor Townsend, who is starting to get very comfortable competing at this level. Pliskova’s serving is her strength, and although she can beat opponents quickly, she also can become error prone towards the end of matches. There is nothing to suggest that Pavlyuchenkova is going to beat Pliskova, so I am going to predict it happens. I mean, who is even reading down this far? Pavlychenkova in 3.

Here is a list of people left in the event I suspect of being elfs :
-Goffin
-his elf sister Mertens
-their elf pal Halep
-their cousin elf from Japan, Osaka
-Popyrin, nice try elf
-Monfils ... only elfs can move that fast ... good try

Cashing out with Bitcoin?

I've been looking into using bitcoin for cashouts through online wesbites with Bovada charging an outrageous $100 per installment other than bitcoin, which is free. bullshit to have to pay $1,100 to get $1,000. These fuckers are catching 10% juice on a 1k cashout smh.
I have a wallet setup, everything looks pretty self explanatory with the ability to sell the bitcoin back into cash then use the app to transfer to a bank.
I've heard some horror stories about depositing with Bitcoin though, just wondering if there are any hangups in the cashout process?
Thanks in advance

I did it fellow degens, I cashed out a fat bitcoin bonus

Proof: https://www.reddit.com/usethengineer1/comments/fvmhth/i_did_it/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I noticed Bovada was offering a bonus for bitcoin deposits so I said why not try it during quarantine and bet on some esports well so I completed a deposit for $79 just for fun. After the deposit went through I realized that the bonus was only for casino games and it has a 50X rollover so I though I am fucked and proceeded to just gamble on black jack and losing all 79 of my actual cash then realizing it was probably over and I just got played by bovada once again. At this point I still had about $70 bonus which can only be used for casino games so I went balls deep into the BJ table with nothing to lose making $5 $10 bets then suddenly I had $300 so I was pretty happy but then realize that black jack only counts 10% of your bets towards the bonus so at this point I know I have to bet around $79,000 on BJ just to unlock the bonus almost impossible. Well, me on a Saturday night quarantined and with nothing to do I decided to just continue playing BJ just to kill time then all of a sudden I have $1000 on my account after some hands but I am still only about 10% ($8000 staked ) towards completing the bonus. Those $1000 is just paper money right there is nothing I can do if I don’t complete the bonus so I said let’s increase the stakes and see what happens so I started playing $50 $100 hands sometimes going down to $5 $10 to avoid big losses somehow it worked and I found myself at about $4000 in my account and about 50%($38,000 staked) of the bonus completed at this point I realized I can just throw down $3000 to $2000 on the slots which count 100% toward the bonus and walk away with about a $1000 which meant more than 10X my original $79 deposit so I was really happy but being the gambler I am I decided to just continue playing BJ with big bets and going up and down all the way to $1000 which meant the bonus was imposible but I just keep grinding and manage to end up back at $4000 on winnings and about 70% of the bonus completed I was really happy at that point and realized that I just needed to throw some money at the slots and I can probably walk away with $2000 so I said let’s take this one home. I proceeded to open the Cleo slot game making $20 bets and it was just standard losing most of the time and some small wins until I hit the free spins and somehow walked away with $1000 from that. then I went to the caesars victory slot and got lucky and made another $700. At that point it was like 2 AM and I was in disbelief of what just happened somehow I went from losing all my initial deposit to having more than $5000 in gains now all converted to cash I was all happy and shaking. I was thinking to go back and put it all in BJ but somehow I got smart and completed a withdraw to save myself.
I got a bonus from Bovada almost lost it all in a couple of minutes then spent about 4 hours gambling and took a big pay day home.

Funding my account with Bitcoin. HELP!!

I’m gonna give you all the steps I’m assuming are correct and maybe one of u can lend a piece of advice if I need one? 1) go to cash app, click the bank symbol (bottom left)
2) go to bitcoin, click deposit (Closed CashApp) (Opened Coinbase)
3)go on coinbase, buy bitcoin by clicking ‘buy crypto’
4) go to portfolio, click on bitcoin, then click on the amount I just purchased. Hit send, then type or scan cash app deposit QR code
5)withdrawal from cash app and use the bovada code
I watched a YouTube video that broke it down in a 7 step process that almost seemed easier. So, 1) buy bitcoin thru cashapp
2) open up bovada account and click deposit, then click bitcoin
3) copy and paste the link from your bovada bitcoin wallet.
4) go back to cashapp
5) select bitcoin from profile??? (Confused)
6) under ‘bitcoin’ there is an option to ‘withdraw’ bitcoin, select that option. (Enter bovada code manually or scan the QR code)
7) go back to bovada and click done
I appreciate and feedback/Advice

bliponaship - Week 6 / Hydra System Picks

What a nightmare. Week 5 will now forever be known as Bloody Saturday for me. There were so many things that went wrong. New Mexico State played horribly, but thanks to a fumble by Fresno State on their own 30 in the 2H, they get the TD they need to eventually cover the spread as Fresno State scores 24 first half points and 6 second half points. We also had New Mexico score a garbage TD with 40 seconds left in the game to cover against Liberty. Arizona State and Cal ended 1/2 point above 40.5. In fact, the line went up right after I posted it to 41, eventually getting up to 43.5. I think most people won on that bet and got a better number, but sheeeeesh. How about Arizona who announced right before the game that their Heisman-caliber QB wouldn't be playing? Clemson decided they were going to take an early bye week. And an Arkansas team that lost to San Jose State and almost lost to an FCS team nearly beat TAMU?
And North Texas... I understand I'm going to get a lot of flak for this one since it was my lock, and rightfully so. I was really excited about this game because I got the number at -3 at my local book and -6 online. The number steamed up to UNT -9 at kickoff! Looking at the box score is so confusing. UNT gained 100 more yards than Houston, had more first downs, had 230 more pass yards, had the ball for longer and had zero turnovers. Houston's QB that sucked last year came in and threw 16/20! I am shocked. I watched the entire game and still have no clue how this happened. Every analyst and rating system had UNT easily winning this game. Awful beat.
This is part of the reason I don't charge for my picks. If a weird weekend comes along, you don't have to worry about paying for picks, just lost juice. This was a tough one and a hard regression to the mean, but we press onward.

Week 5 Recap:

Week 5 picks went 3-9 with 2 pushes for a shocking -20.10u

Game Thread Guidelines Update

/CFB Ball Note From Mods: The Game Thread Scheduler has been built out over the past few years, and is intended to be a coordinated way to provide an informative, timely, and concise background to discuss games. While the mod team has built out the infrastructure, we really haven't put in a lot of time into formal guidelines for what should go in them. T-bootz has taken on a lot of initiative in really encapsulating what we're shooting for, and is taking on more of a role in really organizing game threads for /CFB.
Louisiana Ball T-bootz:
Over the past several weeks, the mods and myself have taken a look at the current game thread system for /CFB. We analyzed game threads from the first three weeks and looked at several factors: which users are creating great threads, what makes a great thread, and what are some areas of the game thread system that could be improved.
We found that for the most part, everyone is doing a great job with the threads - most users are typically claiming 1-2 threads per week, updating the threads with great information, and actively participating in the threads they've created.
That being said, for one week we looked at, we found that almost 50% of threads were not updated or had little to no edits at all. Of that 50%, most of the threads were claimed by a small minority of users, each claiming the maximum number of threads allowed. One reason for this phenomenon could be that Reddit began awarding karma for self-posts about a year ago. Another reason could be because we've never really had a set of guidelines or suggestions in place for editing game threads. Ultimately, it takes away from users that want to contribute quality content to the sub and results in spammy, low quality posts.
In an effort to encourage quality posts, the mod team, along with myself as an admin for the Game Thread Scheduler, have decided to implement a set of rules and guidelines and have begun to actively monitor game threads. For starters, this won't impact the majority of the users that claim threads - keep doing what you're doing. We will however, begin to issue warnings to users who consistently abuse the game thread system by claiming multiple threads each week and make little to no updates.
In an effort to help out users who want to contribute and post quality threads but don't know what to add, we put together a short list of Ideas and Best Practices - basically a list of things that we found from some of the quality game threads we've come across. Feel free to use some of these ideas or come up with your own.
Finally, don't be worried about being booted from a thread you've claimed without a warning. We're setting the bar pretty low to start off and 99.9% of users here have nothing to be concerned about. The main goal is not to turn this into a rigid authoritarian system - we just want users to get a fair shot at contributing quality content to the sub and discourage spammy, low-quality threads. If you have any questions or concerns about your thread or game threads in general we're happy to help out - feel free to message myself or the mods with any concerns.

/CFB Game Thread Claim System /CFB

As many of you already know, the big purple button to your right that says "Submit Game Thread" will take you directly to the claim system - which you can also reach via this link. The claim system allows users to claim Game/Post Game Threads 5 days prior to kickoff. This has a couple of big advantages: 1) you can work on adding details to your game thread throughout the week, and save your edits, 2) you can add collaborators [such as fellow fans, rivals, or even neutral parties] to help you build the thread, 3) there's no mad rush to post game/post game threads or confusion over mods deleting multiples for big games, and 4) because you authorize the bot to post the thread on your behalf at the designated times, you don't have to be physically present prior to kickoff or at the end of the game!

My Gambling Addiction Story: How I've lost $40,000 in my life as a 22-year-old

This is my first reddit post, so please excuse the length, as well as the quality. I’m currently struggling with a gambling addiction that I’ve had for around four years and find that nothing I do has succeeded in helping me overcome this addiction. I figured that other people have experienced a gambling addiction and have successfully overcome one, so I would love to hear anyone’s thoughts, advice, or comments on my situation, as well as gambling addictions in general.
As a kid, I’ve always had an addictive personality. I remember when I was younger, I would play video games for hours on end non-stop. One of my biggest regrets to date is not reading more as a kid. The cognitive ability of reading is one of the most underrated skills in life and my peers and friends who read for fun growing up are not only fast readers, but generally do well in school and life. At the time, I didn’t think much of my video game addiction as it was not harming myself or others. Little did I know, this small addiction would serve as a gateway to a larger addiction that would bring a lot of stress and problems in my life.
Fast forward to the summer after graduating senior year of high school. Growing up, I’ve always been really into soccer, playing competitively on a traveling club team since I was eleven years old. By my senior year of high school, I was committed to a prestigious university to play collegiate soccer. During my high school soccer season my senior year in the spring, I broke my foot in the league championship game against our rivals (which we won). This was the first time in my life that I’ve ever suffered a serious injury and let me tell you, I was not ready for the setbacks that I would face from it, both physically and mentally. For those of you who have never broken a bone, it is one of the most debilitating physical things that can occur to someone, especially if it impairs daily, routine activity. I had to use crutches or a knee scooter to get around everywhere and could not exercise, which caused a great deal of anxiety and jitteriness for me given that I’ve grown up living an active lifestyle. Around the same time, I had some friends who were talking about a casino that was only 15 minutes away from where we lived and it was also an 18+ casino. Given that I couldn’t really do much with a broken foot, I decided to make a trip to this casino to find out what people were talking about. Little did I know that this innocent, first trip to the small casino near my house four years ago would take me down a dark path of gambling.
I remember on my first trip to the casino, I was so excited that I grabbed a handful of cash (I think around $100) and drove as quickly as possible to the casino. When I tried to enter the building, a security guard stopped me and asked for my ID. Amidst my excitement, I realized I forgot my wallet with my driver’s license at home, which led me to speed home to grab it. On my way home, I was stopped by a police officer for going 15 miles per hour over the residential speed limit. The officer was nice enough not to penalize me for not having my ID, but I still received a $140 ticket. After that happened, I was in a pretty bad mood, but still determined to find out what it was like to wager money on a bunch of cards. I remember the first trip to the casino, I actually lost my $100 in about 15 minutes playing blackjack, which should’ve discouraged me from setting foot in a casino ever again. However, me being someone who thinks that they’re smarting than the average gambler, I went home that night and practiced memorizing basic strategy (a strategy that minimizes the house edge in blackjack), as well as studied card counting, specifically the Hi-Lo method (wagering more money when the remaining cards are favorable for the player).
Armed with this new knowledge, I was determined to beat the game and make money from my local casino, after all, it did cost me $240 the first time I went. The few trips after my first, I was making money pretty consistently. I remember there was one time I turned $60 into around $600 and other times where I would walk away making a couple hundred dollars. I didn’t think that gambling was a problem during this time as I was going with my friends, making money, and getting a crazy amount of adrenaline from the casino runs. Being at the blackjack table allowed me to forget about my anxiety and depression that gradually compiled due to my broken foot and the inability to exercise. It provided an escape from the limitations that my broken foot had instilled on me.
At the same time, I was working at Domino’s as a delivery driver, and remember taking the cash from the tips I earned each day that I worked (ranging from $60 to $200) and drive over to the casino to test my luck for that day. For those of you who don’t know, gambling is dangerous because winning money is really not that difficult; however, walking away with the money is a completely different story. A majority of times I went to the casino, I was up from my original buy-in at some point; however, that meant nothing considering I didn't walk away winning most of the time. I started spending more and more time at the casino, and eventually started losing money, including all the money I had previously won from the casino. The problem started getting particularly bad when I started lying to my friends about going to the casino. I even remembered multiple times where I would go with friends (who had more self-control than I did), and would stay longer than them (losing my ride) and resort to calling other friends to pick me up or taking a cab home.
To make matters worse, one of the things I’m most ashamed of to this day was gambling on the birthday of my girlfriend at the time which caused me to be late to her birthday dinner with her family. To make matters worse, I remember taking my girlfriend to dinner near the casino, stopping by the casino to redeem one of the bonus coupons they give you to entice you to visit more frequently, and having her wait in the car for an hour while I played blackjack. Despite having nights where I won over two grand in a matter of a few hours, I still ended up losing at least $3,000 that summer. Luckily, I was going off to college in St. Louis, far away from my hometown casino in Kirkland, Washington, which should have prevented me from gambling during my four years at college.
My Freshman year of college was rough, my foot hadn’t fully recovered so I was not able to play soccer to my full potential. On top of this, I had a difficult time making friends, and was in an unfamiliar, uncomfortable environment. I was surrounded by extremely wealthy, privileged kids from the Northeast, who grew up going to private school. Most of these kids have never worked a job in their lives. This made it a much more difficult time getting accustomed to my new school having grown up on the West Coast, going to public high school, and working throughout high school. Additionally, the way the social scene at my school works is through Greek life, as the population of social, normal people is pretty small. To make matters worse, as a guy, one of the only ways to have a good social life is joining a fraternity; however, since the fraternity houses are pretty small relative to state schools, many kids who rush don’t receive bids. I was unfortunate to be a part of that group when I rushed Freshman year. On top of this blow to my self-esteem, I underwent foot surgery since my foot was not making any progress healing. This caused me to have to rely on crutches and a knee scooter again for the next couple months. I was legitimately depressed and at the lowest low point of my life. I was not doing well in school, didn’t have a girlfriend, and felt like I didn’t have any close friends in general.
This was around the time that I discovered the realm of online gambling, a path that would unfortunately be worse than live casinos. Online casinos make it extremely easy to deposit real money into them, and coincidentally, pretty damn difficult to withdraw money. I remember visiting a casino called Bovada and making my first $100 deposit with my debit card. This deposit quickly lead to more $100 deposits, until I had lost around $1,000 playing online blackjack and poker in a matter of hours. At this point, I didn’t have a job so I was essentially gambling away money my parents had given me to spend on food and necessities. I was too ashamed to tell my parents about this problem, as they were extremely disappointed after I told them at the end of the summer after senior year of high school. Luckily, at this point in my life, I didn’t have too much disposable income to gamble away so the damages were minimal.
The next few years in college got better, I quit soccer and got into lifting, got into a fraternity, and made a lot of new friends, who I’m still close with to this day. Aside from getting into sports gambling for around a month and losing $1,000, I would lose between $1,000 - $2,000 whenever I would go home for winter break at the original casino I went to. Although this was a decent amount of money, I was still able to allocate some of the money that I earned from my college job towards personal spending and was just happy that I had the self-control to ration out a percentage of it that I was comfortable losing when I did gamble. The good thing was that I did not gamble too consistently my sophomore and junior year of college and more importantly, I was not obsessively thinking about it every day.
Now senior year of college was where everything took a turn for the worse and led me to all-time lows in my life. I remember playing poker for $25 buy-ins with my friends at my apartment every night for the first half of the school year. This wasn’t a problem financially since losing $25, was not a big deal to my financial health. Additionally, it was more of a social activity where most people weren’t too concerned about the money and were playing for a good time. This did negatively impact me; however, as I was constantly thinking about poker and gambling in general, all the time.
Around the same time, I got my signing bonus from the company where I will be working at in a couple months and started heading to the nearby casinos with my roommate to play blackjack. I remember the first night we went, I won $2,000 and he won $500 and that immediately hooked me back into the whirlpool of blackjack. I started going at every opportunity I got, which also led to the revival of my online gambling addiction. I remember specifically, one time when I was playing online blackjack, I turned $200 into $4,000, submitted the withdrawal request, but since online casinos take a long time to process the requests (intentionally as they want you to gamble the money away), I ended up losing the $4,000, along with another $1,000 or $2,000 on top of that as I was chasing my losses. I was actually making money at live casinos, but losing double the amount that I made online. This gambling ended up coming to a brief stop when I had lost my signing bonus and all the money in my bank account and I took a break for around a month or so.
The addiction started back up when I received my next paycheck from my college job. The instance, the check was deposited into my bank account and cash was available, I would race over to an ATM and withdraw money to gamble with. I quickly lost $1,000 of it back home when I took my friend who visited to a nearby casino. It was around this time he told me about an app where you can invest in stocks called Robinhood, so I put around $5,000 of that paycheck into stocks on the app. When I put the money in my stock account, I remember making a pact to myself that I would never touch a table game again. I mean “New Year, New Me” right? As you can guess, my pact didn’t last very long as I started playing live poker in the casino. I was so drawn to the appeal of winning money by making the right decision. I was actually profiting from playing live stakes poker, as I studied the game and had sound strategy. The dangerous part about playing live poker for me (I personally don’t consider poker as a complete gamble as there is skill involved), was that whenever I went to the casino to play poker, there were temptations awaiting me (table games). After a month or so of playing strictly poker, I started getting back into blackjack again, along with baccarat, and went to the casino 4-5 times a week. After draining all the money from the stock account, I started borrowing money from my friends as I knew I would get a big paycheck from my job at the time at the end of the school year. Additionally, I started dating my current girlfriend in January of that same year (whom I am currently dating) and love very much. I can regretfully say that gambling has not positively impacted my relationship with her in any way.
When my girlfriend and I went to California during spring break, I remember staying up all night on an online casino playing poker, blackjack, and baccarat after she fell asleep. I exhausted all my money in my bank account including maxing out my credit card, during that trip, and had to borrow money from my girlfriend, one of the most shameful things I’ve done to this date. Additionally, I remember one night where I promised her that I would meet her at a party my fraternity was hosting after I went to the casino to play poker with some friends. I drove two of my friends over, and one of my friends left for the party with my car, while me and my other friend stayed. We ended up playing poker the whole night, and despite being up a couple thousand dollars from blackjack, I missed the party and really disappointed my girlfriend. Some of the biggest fights that I have gotten into with my girlfriend were fueled by gambling. The monetary gains that result from the casino are always temporary because at any point in time, you can lose all the money in your bank account if you spend enough time playing games that are specifically designed to make you lose.
Additionally, my addiction has caused me to disappoint my parents and family. No matter how successful I become, I know they will always be worried about me since they know that this dangerous addiction can ruin my life at any moment, without giving any warning signs. I’ve read so many different stories about how this addiction leads to one of the highest suicide rates when people gamble their life away and feel like there is no way of recovering. I would really like to put an end to this problem, at an early age, before I allow it to affect my relationships with my friends and family.
I started skipping out on social events, and hanging out with my friends in general due to my addiction to gambling. All I thought about 24/7 was all the money that I would make playing poker and blackjack. At one point, I was betting 3 black chips like they were worth a few cents as opposed to one hundred dollars each on table games. I had to lie to my friends about going to the casino because I was embarrassed about that side of my life.
The summer after my graduation, I just continued to dig myself into a deeper hole. I would win money in real life, while losing money playing online poker and blackjack. After the big paycheck from my college job came in, I stored away a decent amount of money in my Robinhood stock account to invest, but in a matter of a few short months, I had gambled away most of that money. I’ve borrowed money from multiple friends, even my girlfriend, and have also exhausted my credit card on several occasions. The loss of money started affecting my play in live poker. I ended up losing $5,000 playing live poker, along with $15,000 online, and at least $20,000 in casinos. Even though I graduated from a prestigious university, and I have a solid job lined up in the fall, I battle constantly with this addiction and the urge to gamble with the hopes of earning all of my money back and being done with gambling once and for all. What started as a spark of curiosity turned into an escape from emotional pain and eventually into a lifelong attempt to break-even.
I've tried many things to overcome this addiction, but nothing has worked successfully. I'm posting on here today because I want to end this addiction once and for all. I figure if I post on reddit, I will at least have written down this commitment in a publicly available space.
TL;DR: What started as a curiosity about what gambling was turned into a four year struggle with this addiction that has led to financial distress, relationship problems, and unproductive behavior. Wrote this reddit post to seek advice on overcoming a gambling addiction, and would love to hear any thoughts, comments, or concerns.
